Fume Fx Preview Detail

ive recently got fume fx 2 and have been playing round with it, but ive got 2 problems, i just cant get shadows to work with it, and the detailing in the sim window is always way better then my renders…

any help guys?

Use standard spot/directional lights with shadow maps (not raytrace or vray) and make sure you check “Atmospheric Shadows” on the light. Make sure you dont make the light cone any wider than it needs to be to make sure you get good shadowmap detail on the fume grid. I find this setup the most robust.
Also make sure cast and receive shadows are checked in the render tab of your fume grid.
You can also check the object properties of the grid to make sure cast/receive shadows havent been unchecked.
The detail should pop once you have shadows and self shadowing on and some nice lighting

I’m curious about this too. I always go with Raytrace shadows, but that’s just what I’ve been told. Is there any noticeable difference when using a shadowmap vs. raytrace or ab shadow maps?

awsome, cheers man ill give it a go when i get on it, i definitely haven’t checked the shadows in all of those places
