Have you heard the news?
Fume FX on Maya !!!
Sooo, this means our wet dreams finally coming true? No more envy towards max users, we can finally live in peace
This is great , I have already asked my Studio to look for purchase. Finally the long wait is over !!
Yes, we are feeling the love once more. Shame there isnt an OSX version - anyone know if this is in pipeline?
STOKED
ive been testing Phoenix FD for maya, and am loving it, however i cant wait to get into these new bits for maya,
anyone know if these will ship with maya or be separate , like a plug in pkg
I always found fume easier to use than maya fluids. I am wondering when it will be released (it has been 6 months that sitni sati did published this news if I remember well)
Don’t know if i should post this here since it’s a FumeFx thread but i was in the beta for Fury and made a quick test using realflow for the simulation and rendered it using Fury for Maya and this is what i got.

Also tested a little Krakatoa for Maya and the differece between the two is that Krakatoa is CPU based multithreaded and the particles cannot be scaled since it’s a point volumetric renderer, Fury however is a GPU particle renderer and it has the ability to scale individual particles.
Tough to compare a ~$400 plugin to a $4500+ full software.
We are comparing Maya fluids to Fume Fx, why not Fume FX to Houdini Fluids ?
At the moment, I found Mantra a bit slow. So it is difficult to predict result when you begin with Houdini fluids even if I found the result nicer than Fume.
What about comparing Phoenix FD with Fume FX?
From the videos i’ve seen of Phoenix FD on Chaos Group’s youtube channel it’s very easy to set up and very fast, plus it has a quick preview in the viewport and the ability to resimulate simulations wich basically focuses more of the details having already the base from the previous simulation.
price of maya + price of fume = price of houdini and no plugins needed. comparison is very easy.
Not if you already have Maya.
Then its a ~$400 plugin or ~$4500 for Houdini.
From the perspective of a current Maya user, evaluating fluids systems (this is the maya forum after all) are the Houdini fluids 11.25x better than Fume?
from the perspective of a VFX supervisor who is staffing up and buying tools, its a choice between buying houdini or maya + fume.
not every users needs are the same. you are replying to my post “hmm houdini or fume, decisions decisions”. so you are talking directly about my personal needs, not yours.
