Fume FX illumination maps doesn' t work

#1

Hi guys, i ve got some problems with fumefx 2 and max 2012 and lights , i do my setup, then i add a standard light, turn on cast shadows, atmospheric shadows, raytraced shadows, then add my light to my fumefx setup, turn cast shadows on the smoke renering tab and turn on illumination map and… it doesn’t work. The ligh doesn’t illuminate the smoke. I ve tried everything. The weird thing is when i do the the sim the window where it calculate illumination maps never show up, as if i illumination maps wasn’t checked…

Any help ?

Regards
J.

Hmm, nope, works for me. I followed the exact steps you posted.

I even tested other lights and shadow types.

Shadows do not appear in the FumeFX Preview window, only at render time.

i use scanline renderer with defaults lights.
It’ s doesn’t work either on render image.
But should this also work in fume fx preview windows ?

Here is the test scene I used:

There are four different lights with different shadows, the only issue I saw was so,me banding with area shadows, although that may just be from a combination of different shadow types.

Enable/disable through the lights and see the results at render time, all of these light generate shadows for me.

Your scene works… it is really weird. I really can’ t understand why the illumination map windows doesn’t show up in my scene when i hit render.

edit : i have attached the scene.

It is working in your scene, the calculation is so fast that you are not seeing it happen. Up the grid res and smoke density, and add a ground plane, then render, I get shadows in your scene.

Your smoke is so thin there really is much there to cast a shadow, either self or on objects. It may not be so noticeable just because of your setup, they are there.

Yep it works
Thank you so much, the grid was the solution. And i need to work those settings to make this smoke thicker…
