Fume FX help? Smoke tendrils...

Hey all,
I’m trying to make some moving mist/fog/smoke that ends in some “eldritch”-like tendrils, but I’m not getting it to do what I’d like. Hoping for some suggestions on how to achieve this. Here are 2 pics illustrating what I’m after.
