Hey guys I hope this is an appropriate place to post this. I wanted some advice on my demo reel, I am going for an effects artist reel. I wanted to know as fx reel, what works and what doesnt? I’m gonna try to give you an idea. First, don’t go for quantity, unless you have a lot of professional or great quality work. Put only your best stuff in. Previews, unless a part of a breakdown, tests, simple cases - these things don’t work. People won’t hire you because you can emit ffx smoke from a square, or pour simple RF liquid over a ball. Make a couple shots, with interaction and multiple elements that would represent a scale of complexity similar to a production piece. Break them down nicely, so its clear what you did. Put in versions, so people know you can iterate on a design - something nobody puts in their reels and its very important for production. And NO fancy stuff except your work.
Thanks its been really hard trying to figure out what to put in my reel I have been through allot of revisions it seems most places just want commercial work on your reel before they even consider you. And by previews do you mean playblasts open gl stuff, I was told thats more preferred for entry level artists with out much commercial experience.
Hmm I understand, In my case which kind of shots do yo think work and which one doesnt . I am thinking maybe I should take out the simpler shots.
Take out the simple ones and work more on the remaining ones to make them the best you can do.
