From Max to Lightwave

#1

hello good people, im a Max user and Maya user, have never touched Lightwave at all. I did this project, and the client wants the scene delivered in both Max and Lightwave. I managed to get the model in to LWO, but not the textures. I loaded as both 3ds and Obj with the same results for both, I would really appreciate it if anyone has any experience in this area if you could help me out. Thanks!

I am not sure what he did but all Deespona models are available in 3ds formats that load stright into modeler in lightwave with all surface settings preserved.

I would try to call him or contact him from his web page… www.deespona.com

You could try FBX to get the scene across to LW.

Export to .obj and export the texture, you should be able to get the mesh with texture.

try obj on small objects…but large scenes are best with fbx and are far more reliable than obj import into lightwave

also if youy do use 3ds then in max make shure your not having grouped objects as they tend to explode and rotate when in lighwave as lw doesn’t surrpot 3ds very well…like no animation, no lights, no camera…

also 3ds is DOS based so any texture name need to conform to 8:3 format that means any names for textures MUST not be longer than 8 letters otherwise it will be truncated with a~

also check scriptspot for lightwave exporters from 3dsmax

best bet IS fbx and you use that with LAYOUT not modeler so you get camera’s lightwave and animation data as well as the model and textures.
