From lighting specialist to TD Generalist

#1

Hi All,

I searched the form and haven’t seen a post that covers this topic. Please direct me to a thread if this topic already exists.

I am a lighting TD working freelance/contracts. I want to expand my skill set so that I can apply to studios as a TD Generalist. I have a degree in Computer Science so I’m considering doing online tutorials or a certificate course instead of going back to school.

I decided to learn more about lookdev to start. (Is that a good idea?) Then I want to learn about writing shaders, texturing, modelling, compositing and effects. I have dabbled in all these areas in school which was ages ago. I did a little effects and compositing in production.

Can anyone recommend a good place to learn about look development, texturing & shader writing? Or where I can find short refresher courses on these skills? And a short refresher course on MEL and C++?

Thank you,
D
