Freeze transformations in Maya HELP!

Hi get this warning when I freeze transformation on a duplicated object in maya 2011 how do I fix this? please HELP!

Warning: Cannot freeze below transform curve8 due to multiply-instanced child curveShape3

Unfortunately you cannot freeze transforms on instanced duplicates. Easiest way to fix this would be to convert the instance you are trying to freeze into an object, then you will be able to freeze transforms. Modify > Convert > Instance to Object
