Frames between the keyframes

#1

Hi Everybody,

I’m new here and I’m having a horrible newbie-time

For so far I have rigged my character in Maya and now it’s time to go animating.
I have set a key in the first frame. After that I went to the fifth frame and changed the position of my character. Again I have set a key.
Between frame 1 and 5 the character has the position from frame 1. In frame 5 the position of the character changes until the next key frame. But I thought the frames between the key frames are filled in automatically to create some kind of smooth movement, but that’s not happening. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.

It seems like you are in stepped mode.
So the TYPICAL workflow is at the start to do everything in stepped mode, so get all your poses looking really dynamic and start trying to have some nice ease in’s and ease out’s along with getting some good timing in there. Then when you are happy with what you have you should go to spline mode (some people go to linear mode first and then to spline)and to do that you should select all the curves in the graph editor which would be the the button that looks like a “S” on its side which is next to a "J’ on its side.

The buttons that are in the top right corner of this picture:
