back lit landscapes are always hard, and exposure is always a must in this kind of shots, I think your elements is too flat and it needs to be a little bit darker, maybe some foreground or closer hills will give depth to it
Thank you very much jamesvfx, for the critiques! I’ve now added few elements in the FG!
It’s titled, “Endless Forest, Endless Journey”. I’ve added few elements here, like a character (used previously in my Medieval Scene matte), few rocks, birds & fogs! The character on the FG was painted entirely using a mouse! I’ve tried to give the matte-painting a bit more depth.

Hi Everyone,
Here’s another update! I’ve added couple of mountains on the BG, along with a waterfall in the mid-ground! The waterfall was entirely painted using a mouse, as well as the smokes & most parts of the mountains! Will be waiting for your critiques & comments!

Awesome work, Kaustav!
I keep going back to the one without the volcanoes and the waterfall though. The waterfall looks a little too overexposed and I don’t think the volcanoes add too much to the shot. Just my first impressions but great work overall!!!
Hi sloshutter,
Thank you very much for the complements!
I’m glad that you liked it!
Yeah, I have to fully agree with you about the waterfall & the volcanic mountains! I included them, just to put a bit more depth to the matte-painting, but it seems, it looks better without them!
I really like what you are doing. But to me the waterfall feels a bit out of place… lighting is weird on it… but also maybe the placement of it as well. Great work so far though!
I think the second image was the best, and the only thing that looked strange is the thing at the bottom to the right of the character, I’d remove it (I think it’s rocks?). Only other thing I’d do is make some highlights on the top trees that get directly hit by the sunlight. It has to be really subtle, only to give an impression that the sun’s rays hit some of their leaves. Maybe some highlights on the character too from the sun, very little but just where we could actually see them. Other than that it’s all good IMO.
Hi Ruinmyridia,
Thank you very much for the complements & critiques! I will surely follow your critiques & will post an update asap!
Hi PhilOsirus,
Thank you very much for the complements & critiques! I’ll definitely keep your precious critiques in mind, and will try to implement them in the near future!
Hi Everyone,
Here’s a small update! I’ve removed the BG mountains & the waterfall! I’ve shifted the FG character to the extreme right! I hope you will like it! Comments & critiques, as always, are heartily welcome!
