Folding back a hood

#1

Hey Everyone,
I am trying to setup this hood so it is able to fold back. I have tried using nCloth to sim it and I have not had any good results. The hood always seems to want to try and keep its shape instead of collapsing down. I have also tried some tests with joints but it is very had to have it follow the head when its up and the shoulders when its down. I have not tried blendshapes yet, but I thought since they move in such a linear fashion it may be very hard to get that to work properly as well. If anyone has any suggestions or have had to setup something similar and have ANY ideas at all please let me know.

Thanks!

The attribute “input-mesh-attract” is responsible for this behavior. Setting this attribute-value to 0
should solve the probem.

MrMint, thanks for your reply. I tried ncloth some more but I have had nothing but issues with ttrying to fold it down over the head. I decided to try blend shapes, and with enough shapes and some patience I was able to get it to fold down quite well.
I am now in a world of hurt trying to get the hood into the rest of the rig. Basically I need the hood, when folded up, to follow the head Joint, and when folded back to follow the neck Joint. I thought I could just weight the hood to a seperate joint that was constrainted to both the head and neck and had animated weights. My obvious problem there is that now I have a blendshape that is controlling the hood aswell as a joint, so the hood is being double transformed. Does anyone have any solutions to my problem? I am very happy with how the hood folds and would rather not have to do it again. There is no way to animate skin weights in maya is there?
