Fog Cloud mist lightning wind ice light effects

I am trying to make Fog Cloud mist lightning wind ice and light effects for my weapons but I can’t figure out how

I want the one blade to look like its putting out a black mist of death

another to have a dust cloud from its blade

the next wind

the next a lightning flashing effect

and so on and so forth

I have tried and all I am coming out with dose not look good

I looked on the net but could not find tutorials that fit my needs

so If you know any good tuts for this type of stuff or you can give me pointer it be great

I use Photo shop to make textures but not much ells so I say I am still on newb lvl just so you know :slight_smile:

Did you try a brush? I mean that there are several brushes out there that may help you, but you have to mess with the settings to achieve the look you need. You also need to describe what you have done and maybe post screen shot of what you want. One mans dust is another mans smoke…

Anyway - mess with the scatter, shape, opacity and color/mode setting on your brushes. Also try several layers with different modes (overlay, multiply, screen etc).

There are TONs of tutorials on how to paint the effect, or create the effect in a stylistic manner - you just have to look and put in the correct search terms.

I got these just by putting in “Photoshop smoke tutorial” or “Photoshop fire tutorial” in Google. Google is like a genie, you have to know how to ask for what you want otherwise it will just spit out what the closest match is to your phrase. Other than that - there are some really good books at Amazon.com that you can get that may help you. Or try Ballistic publishing or Gnomon.

thanks one of those helped and I think I might be able to use it

I am trying to add magic effects to thees weaponsI made in Maya but after hours of trying all I have managed to do is make the weapons look like crap I even tried to use maya to make the effects but I am a modeler not no dynamic Genie I know the basics and enough to blow some thing up but that’s about it
