Fix For Painter 11 Speeds

#1

Howdy everybody,
I’ve been trying out Painter 11 for the last couple of days and was genuinely surprised to discover that it was significantly slower than Painter X when it came to scrolling and rotating. Especially on 4000 pixels and beyond.
Well, I resolved to get to the bottom of this yesterday, and I’ll be damned if I just haven’t!

Simply press Ctrl+K to bring up the general preferences, and in the bottom left of the window uncheck the 'Draw zoomed-out views using area-averaging".
Hit OK.
That’s it.

After this both panning and rotating is quick, if not quicker than Painter X. The brush strokes I believe are improved a little as well, but maybe that’s just wishful thinking.

If this helps anyone else, or if anyone else has any speed fixes, please feel free to share.
Happy painting.

Good tip. Yes, my UI is now like it should be and everything seems to be a little quicker as well. I just noticed that I had that option unchecked on my Painter IX. I don’t know why they have it on as default? It seems to slow the whole app down.

I switched this off straight away as even in X it bogged down. P11 is still considerably slower than X (in part possibly explained by it using 45% CPU even when idle - http://painterfactory.com/forums/t/1277.aspx )

Yep, same here. I’ve had that off very early on…not a help on my Mac.

Is there still someone trying to use P11? or is everybody waiting for the patch for P11?

I tried completely disabling the brush ghosting yesterday and guess what?
the CPU usage hanging problem is gone. if I put my intuos3 pen aside from the tablet.
CPU usage drop to near 0%. it would still bump up and down ocasionaly to about 8%.

Need someone to confirm if it is the same.

sorry… me bad!
starting to paint and put the pen aside the problem came back again.

Thanks for trying, anyway. This seems to be a recurring process with Painter 11; looking for a bug fix, finding it, jumping for joy, working for a while with the new fixed program…bug returns to mock you.

BTW
Today I ran Painter 7 again on my powerbook G4 1.5 gh and I almost cried. It´s darn fast compared to Painter 11 in a brand new C2D 2.16gh. But I´m liking Painter 11.
