First model - tough and kinda bad I know

#1

Aloha,
trying to do this ben ten diamond head alien transformation with my kid. I have now figured out how to make basic shapes, even make polygons from points to help fill in. Really struggling and very slow going. I use boxes for everything and connect them with cover polygons.

IS there a way to “fill in” the spaces between two objects? I have a foot a thigh and a shin made out of boxes, is there some way to just morter in between them to connect them other then adding my own polygons? just wondering.

Lightwave is fun AND I think I now have a use for that dual core I got with 4 GB ram, (I was not really aware how long rendering takes, wow!). I will try to submit my diamond head model to the forum if thats possible. ANY hints I mean any direction as to how to do these shapes quicker would be very much appreciated. This character is all geometric shapes. I thought it would be easier, but I have to learn somehow.

Thanks proton for all the tutorials I have found on the net, you are the only reason I am using lightwave.

Select a polygon on either side and use the Bridge (>=LW8.5) function. It was made with this in mind. To get more segments, just use the knife tool or bandsaw function etc. If you’re on an older version maybe try Morph Polygon or Create Skin functions (>=LW6.0; You might need to do some polygon normal flipping before and after). You could also grab the edges or a polygon on one side and keep making segments using the Extender function (not Extrude). And when your getting close, just weld or merge the points.

EF thanks,
I am welding and bridging along nicely even using the shortcut keys which are really quite nice, I like the idea of single key shortcut keys not something I see in most apps. Anyway, I have the diamondhead as done as he is gonna get, playing with rendering and I have one last detail. He has a little onmitrix emblem on his chest, its a basic black and grey shape however I thought it was much easier to do in photoshop. So I have my emblem and I have a circle object with its own material on his chest.

I must be dense cuz I am trying projector with a spot, I cant seem to figure out how to get the png image to show up on the darn circle.??? I have looked in the manual for 7 and it touches on uv maps, image maps, projector spots, but I just cant get it figured out how to get a regular image file png,gif or jpeg to show up on the surface of my little patch?

Its like the most basic thing you can do probably and I cant figure it out. By the way I have not yet fgured out the extender or the band saw or knife, I was able to get what I needed with just the weld and the bridge for now.
