First animation demo reel

#1

Hey all!

This is the student demo reel I have put together of my work over the past 3 months. Obviously with only 3 months of animation experience, I still have a lot to learn but I wanted to get some outside perspective on my strengths and weaknesses at this point.

Any feedback that you have about anything is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Gday Brian,

Not bad for your first 3 months man. I like the basics of most of the shots and I think the first one is your strongest. The other keyframe animation seems very stop/start so I would work on smoothing out some of the curves a bit more. Implement some moving holds when you reach the key poses in the animation as this will make it more organic too.

Other than that keep working, perhaps work on some more lip sync, maybe use one of the free rigs off the 11 second club site as they have decent facial setups.

Cheers Jake

Thanks Kobes!

I agree with everything you said. I know that the first animation is clearly the best and probably the only part of that demo reel that won’t get replaced over the next few months.

Great suggestion for grabbing rigs from 11 second club. I wasn’t aware they had rigged characters available there.

Again, thanks! It’s great getting feedback when you’re just getting started.

Hi BriMLN

Good work for just 3 months experience. The first one is the best, but could do with some more polishing.

Generally, your animation lack arcs. The is evident in your hands, where they travel in a straight line from pose to pose.
Your Lip sync suffers from weak poses, this is some thing that you will pick up with practice and by acting in front of a camera.
I’d say, start working more on walk cycles and other body mechanics stuff. Maybe 3 months later you would be ready for the 11 Second Club.
