FireBreather using FUMEFX

#1

Hey guys,I’ve been trying to create a firebreather sort of effect using FUME fx…I’m facing few problems here.As you’ll can see, my base of the fire is thick which is not what exactly i am looking for, 'cos a firebreather kinda spits fuel from the mouth which gives a thin release at base.Secondly, when I reduced the fuel to 0 at a particular frame, the fire goes off from the base to the top at equal speed instead of starting to go off from the base and gradually to the top.Hope you guys are getting what I want to say:)
Any suggestion would be mighty helpful…
Thanks.

Looks like you’re using a simple source.
Have you tried using a particle source?

Yes…using a simple source.sphere.
Never tried PF source 'cos i’m not well versed with it…
any startup would be helpfull…
Thanks.

Hi

If you want the fire to die off slower play with the burn rate I think. The source should be the size you want it, if its to big then reduce its size. If you are looking for a more napalm flamethrower type of effect than try simulating some kind of fluid motion (RealFlow) and emit from those particles.

Personally I think that a simple source should do it I would set its size as big as I need than set temperature as high as I want the flames rise at a certain speed. After this I could tweak burn rate and heat production to control how the fuel burns away.

Thats only an idea It might get more complicated on the way but I hope it helps.

I think one thing that’ll help here is setting a much higher directional velocity for your simple source… it’ll push the flames out much faster and should solve some of your issues… …

I tried a little test with PFlow and while it gives better results I still feel the source area is a bit large.
It’s more like a flamethrower.
The real issue is that fire breathers don’t really spit flames, they spit fuel.
A more accurate way to reproduce this would be to have a small flame on a stick in front of the mouth and then spit fuel at it.
