Hey here is my final project for my animation certificate. Everything from start to finish was done by myself in Maya 8.5 and Adobe After Effects. Please critique. What could I have done better?

Interesting. Not bad for a first attempt. The thing with Calvin and Hobbes…they are probably one of the BEST posed characters in the world. You look at Watterson’s drawings and they are full of life, motion, and expression. Really good animation reference actually.
I can see that you put a lot into this, however, I think in the future you should really study the panels and try to caputre the essence and dynamic motion they have. You could benefit from doing multiple shots as well as opposed to one long shot.
Thank you, I definitely agree. The exaggeration of movement and expression was brought up by my teacher. I made numerous changes from my first draft to my final, trying to incorporate that. But I think my biggest mistake was I set limits on my animation for time. I didn’t want to redo the entire animation, so instead, I tried to squeeze in a little exaggeration here and there. I guess I need not be afraid of redoing and adding animation until it is at its best.
