Thanks SD… That’s the plan, but sometimes overlapping shadows and stuff like that
make it hard to separate layers… but I don’t see it being a problem in this case.
Picken: I sent you a PM.

Ok. i uploaded my first Wip from shot 3. Comment it please.
ftp://fetch.boy1da.com/public_html/sarhidai/
Good to have you join us.
Well my first crit is on how you make a file link
Your link should look like this below.
http://fetch.boy1da.com/sarhidai/shot_03_dog_01_dust_WIP1.avi
First you put the site name with http:// not ftp://
Then you should put fetch.boy1da.com/
Then your folder sarhidai/
Then the full name of your file shot_03_dog_01_dust_WIP1.avi
That way everyone can download it.
Okay as far as your work so far, it is looking GREAT !
I’m real happy with it.
Here are things that I think will make it even better.
1. add a rock or 2 very small flying out, you can use another emitter
if you need.
2. Put a rock on the ground before he starts, and hand animate
it getting pushed aside. also make it small. it may be a bit bigger
then the rest.
3. The last cloud, can you add a softer bigger cloud floating up slower into the air/sky.
You can add a softer one on top and we can mix them .
Then I can fade it out into the air when I composite.
Or you can fade it out yourself with the particle life.
So keep what you have so far just add that other stuff on top.
Even if we use what you already have it will still LOOK GREAT !
welcome mate that`s great to have a new member keep going guys we want to rock da world :bounce:
Ok, I uploaded the next version.
http://fetch.boy1da.com/sarhidai/shot_03_dog_01_dust_WIP2.avi
marry Xmass to everybogy on cgtalk and for project fetch:d
Thanks for the update.
Your link still needs a small fix, remove public_html/
Then it should work fine.
Here is some input to the last update.
The rock should only bounce once on the first bounce…
and then maybe one more time when the dog falls.
You should have another particle emitter that shoots outs smaller rocks.
The best example I can give you is shot 1.
Look at when the ball hits the ground.
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=3980669&postcount=347
The last cloud is a bit hard to explain.
I think that the particles should be larger as they float up.
Like big puffs.
I think that I had something like a mushroom cloud effect in mind.
But that may be hard to do…
Instead maybe just make a bigger version of the dust clouds
like the one that comes before it… just make it shoot out further.
Like a “ring wave” after shock.
OR! If you like you can move on to the next shot.
And I will take care of that stuff I said above.
What particle system did you use. And what version of MAX ?
Also do you use v-ray ? I think I may need some help with laying out all
the stuff on the street… the models are made already, some may need textures.
But you seem to be good with composition of images.
Thanks again.
Ok I will fix the big rock. i have another emitter that shouts out the little rocks maybe I have to scale them up a bit. I’ll scale up the particles too when the dog hit’s the ground. I’ll try to make that ring wave effect but the mushroom is hard for me. (but i’ll try)
I’m using Particle Flow with max 9, and yes I have Vray too
but this stuff that I uploaded was rendered with simple scanline because my computer is really not a workstation :S
and I always run out of memory when i used it in the shot.
I’ll make these changes and we can go to the next shot or anything that you give me.
By.
Oh okay… don’t worry about v-ray… use the scan-line.
Yep I can’t see the small rocks:eek:
Wait… I see them, at the end… you should put them when the dog jumps
But not for every jump… and make them bigger and less of the amount of them.
Oh yea… the mush room idea is a stupid one… it is very hard to do…
but just as long as you get the idea I’m going for.
Like I said before you are doing a great job, so no worries
ok I have a little problem with the small rocks I don’t have pation to it :D; but I will send you the perfect one at weekend. for a liitle rest you can sent me somethiing else
i can start it. but tomorrow i have to go and I have no ime to work on it.
Thanks :d
I added my finalized version of shot_3_dog_1 and I uploaded the maxfile too to the ftp.
I was trying to make the tweaks that you sad, i hope it’s good for you.

I’m looking forward to the next work or shot
By!
Nice work Picken.
If i can offer 2cents of input.
…the ball taking off at that angle seems odd since there was no shift in the dog’s bounce to make it move at such a sharp trajectory.
The rocks look neat but dissapear too suddenly and then there’s only one more small rock later in the animation.
otherwise looks good to me.
One more suggestion is to use a more standard codec…Indeo is something that might mess some PC users up if they have Windows media player etc set as their default player.
Hey guys…Well it’s a new year , so lets make this the year
we finish this project, it is long over due and we are so close to the end.
Hey SD thanks for your input.
Don’t worry about the ball, the boy is the one kicking it.
He is just hidden in the shot. Picken is just responsible for the particles.
Péter, good update…
I have to agree with softdistortion.
You need to use gravity and put a deflector on the ground
so that the rocks can bounce off the ground and then come to a stop.
You can do simple particle animation with just the max
super spray particle emitter. But it is up to what you want to use to do it.
I have a idea about the ring wave !
Max has a primitive called “Ring Wave”
Use that it is procedural geometry, that animates.
You can put it in , and I will fade it out and blur it in the compositing stage.
As for other things to work on.
We will have to dig deep, because only 2 shots left.
And it will be mostly animation, and layout of the set.
And a few more really basic particle shots.
I will see what I can dig up for you, or anybody else that want to work on something.
I hope I won’t be walking to the finish line all by my self on this.
Here is what needs to be done.
Shot 11. http://fetch.boy1da.com/concepts/SHOT_10.jpg
It is the last frame on the page in the link, and the final shot in the short.
Should be a easy shot, but we need the street to be laid out.
If someone wants to do that shot, everything you need is pretty
much made for you already, you just have to put it all in place.
Particle shots.
Shot 10: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=4834390&postcount=988
We need to have particles , dirt and dust fly out when the claw
digs into the ground… also have dirt dig up from under the ground.
Same for shot 9 http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=4753976&postcount=968
They will be edited together in the end.
The street shot INTRO:
This is the shot I’m working on now.
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showpost.php?p=4410910&postcount=812
Here is my first WIP of the blocking and timing of the animation.
It is very bad at this stage, but I have to get the timing down
before I start to really get into the animation of it.
http://fetch.boy1da.com/video/Intro_01.rar
So what I need is for someone to layout all the props and set.
Most of the stuff is made already , some may have to be textured.
Like the cars and houses.
If you are interested in any of that stuff then let me know.
Hey Guys,
Just dropping in to let you know I am still alive
I am working on the animation for the game screen. Just something for a Game Over screen as i think thats all we see anyway.
Great work on the animation Picken. Nice to have another animator helping out
Chat again soon
Cheers
I’d like you all to meet the newest member to the team.
Kaiden AKA “GRL1DA” My daughter was born this week Jan 2 2008.
Here is an image of her working on her first WIP.:arteest:
It may take her a while, but I’m sure she will post updates soon enough

Congrats to you, PapaOmar and your wife. You two have one of the greatests projects every.
PS: Love that comfy looking workstation chair.
