Since nobody volunteered to model the helmet:shrug:… I did it.
I don’t know if I will put the strap, but I won’t put the face guard
because I don’t want to block his face.

That’s it for now.

Thanks Tony.
Everyone, we still need the following.
- 3DS MAX ANIMATORS
- 3DS MAX PARTICLE ANIMATORS
- 3DS MAX RIGGERS
- Someone to make a fake video game screen.
hehehe love the helmet
I came in just to see if anyone had started it yet but as usual the Big O takes care of it all
Great stuff
So here is the render of shot 10. (CLICK THE IMAGE)
It is about 80% to what I would like, as for now it is the final.
I think it would be kool to add all the kids from the street
watching peeking over the fence… to see his great invention !
I would also like to put a big tree beside his house.
I will go over all the shots once they are all done.
Then fix or put in things that I left out, like the background stuff,
and some particle effects, and maybe fix some of the small mistakes.
But first we must get all the shots done! 2 more shots to go !
All that is left is the intro shot of the kids on the street.
And the final shot of the boy flying into the sunset.
As always we still need help.
-3DS MAX animation.
-3DS MAX rigging.
- 3DS MAX particle animation
-Still need a game screen to be made.
Hey there BIG O
yet again you amaze me with this stuff and churning it out so fast. It looks great, it seems very fast at the end, I had to watch it a couple of times to get an idea of what actually happened the kid. I know its a tough one to pull off as the arm is pointing at the ball to begin with but it might need to be a little slower. Although all this could change with the final scene as it will answer the question of “Where did he go??”
Fantastic stuff though, I can’t believe its only 2 shots away from being pretty much done. You are a credit to the collab art my friend!
Cheers
Rich
HA, FAST ! that’s the idea
Have you seen the movie ratatouille from pixar.
The shot when the guy is in the food storage room talking to the rat,
then the head cook walks into the room.
And the guy grabs the rat so fast and puts it under his hat !
I had to rewind that shot so many times, because of the speed
it made me laugh soooo hard…
Anyway, I had it even faster then that, but as you said when we
see the shot with the next shot edited together, plus with the sound
of the arm whipping and the boy screaming, I think it will read better.
Plus if it is slower, it will look like it does not have the FORCE
it will need to throw him into the sun.
The good thing is if people miss it, then they will have a reason to watch it more :surprised
But uuumm you could of said that when I posted the animation test
before I went trough all that trouble to render it all out !
Okay so here are the alternative ideas if you think that the throw is too fast.
1- We can have the arm slam him around a few times before it throws him…
2- We can have the camera follow him as he flies into the air.
That way we would not need to have a shot 11… so 11 will be combined with 10
uuumm 2 would probably make more sence… and easier to do as well.
BUT then we really have to lay out the rest of the street.
Well anybody let me know what you all think ?!?!
Hehehe Sorry Big O
As I was writing that last post i did kinda changed my mind right about the bit when i mentioned the next shot. I think it just seems quick as it stops just after that point in the shot. But you have a point, any slower and it would look too slow to throw him any great distance. I think was makes it look so fast is the arm snapping back into place right after the throw, but I get what you are doing with the quick throw to surprise people as it is definitly not expected at the time.
I think the reason it looked slower on the rough cut was because there was no motion blur so it looks alot quicker now. Once the next shot is in place it will look great I have no doubt…
What are you doing listening to me anyway, I talk nonsense most of the time. I just thought it might be nice if i commented on something
I just noticed you posted again as i started writing this, I think its fine as it is, its one of those moments that will benefit a lot from good sound editing (as you said) and how the next scene plays out. I think following him with the camera might be a little too much. I would stick with what you have for the final shot with perhaps the dog hopping into the shot just as he goes into the distance as if he is going to fetch the boy yelp a few times and then yawn and walk out of shot.
Ha, yea I should have known better then to listen to you
My girlfriend said it was fast too but I was not sure what she meant …
so hearing you say it, made me think about it.
But the idea is to give the feel of a sucker punch,
When someone walks away slowly, then turns around real quick to land a punch.
Or like when a mouse trap snaps… but I’m sure you get the idea .
Your input is appreciated , that is why it is a collab ![]()
Nice work Omar!
I agree with you that the end should be fast, infact the first part seems too slow…
like the kid and especially his helmet are moving in semi-slowmo…
…no need to rerender…it looks fine and could be tuned in edit.
Hope I’m not overstepping…but I did a retime (Click on image for file -WMV8)
with speed adjusted at various points and the last part with him getting
shot out of frame slowed by just a bit- 10%
Hey Guys,
I get ya Omar, I kinda figured that was the idea after watching it a few more times, I think the main problem for me was just the unexpected ending, if the final shot was there I probably would not have even noticed it.
Cheers
big O great work my friend u know I was sure that u will keep rocking this place till we finish
SD nice work mate ur entry always makes us better ![]()
Yep, I agree with you fully on that, it’s been bugging me.
I was trying to slow it down for some dramatic suspense.
I was gonna go in and then fine tune the timing but just got tired
and left it as is.
They say that too slow animation is one of the most common
mistakes novice animators make, and that I am
I will try to do some speed adjustments if I can pull it off in post
hoping that it will not mess up the speed of the layers yet to
be added in… like the kids looking over the fence and I may
throw the dog in the shot looking too…
Thanks for your input and the time you took to adjust the clip.
I just read your project at cgsociety! i’m really intrested in it. And I would like to join if its possible. Im doing 3ds max for 2 years and maya for about 6 months. I can learn every kind of program if needed. I think I can get good experience if I join your project. I want to improve my skills. If you want you can see my portfolio at http://sarhidai.deviantart.com/
Sorry for my english
By.
Don’t sell yourself short on your animation chops… I know its a ton of work, you’re doing a great job.
I was thinking if you do have problems with the extra layers… you could try rendering the other layers as seperate passes and comp them back to the retimed layer.
