Maybe you can put some shingles on the roof, like the round ones, or square ones
if you prefer.

Okay so here is my input, maybe it can help. If “ya wanna stomp with the big dawgs”…

I think you were on track with the first version just no black
and it needed to be a better quality mapping.

You picked a good model to test your texture skills on.

First can you show me your UV layout ?
Next… I like the flames find a good Image of flames
and post the image you want to use,you don’t have to post the hi rez image
I just want to see the image you choose, but tell me what pixel size
the full rez image you pick is… If you can find a vector image that
is even better. You may need to use Illustrator or another vector
program if you have any. I also have tons of vector clip art
you might want to look on the web for free vector art…

What do you know about texturing so far ?
What would you like to improve on ?

I found a few videos I made a while back.
They show the basics of uv mapping in max, and some stuff in photo shop.
If you want to see them let me know. Depending what you know you may
not even need them. Oh and also they are real old videos so some stuff my be out dated.

well about unwrapping I think not much if it was complex model I wouldnt have been able to unwrapp it .....about painting in ps or such things when I try to texture things I usually dont get the desired effect so I think I suck at painting

Okay good stuff…

Here is the plan, send me your model and is that the actual resolution of
the flame map ? If you have a bigger one send that too… or just send that one.

I will try to take you step by step trough it, and you can follow with the one
you have. I will make some custom videos and show some of the old ones…maybe.

I forgot to mention that I’m back doing some freelance again.
So it my be a bit of a slow process, but should be worth it to take our time.
Others may learn from what we do.

Hello there!

Well just thought I would help out with Tony’s Textureing and Vectorize the flames he posted. That way you can make them any rez you like.

They are not 100% perfect but they are pretty close.

They are in AI and EPS format just in case th AI format doesn’t work on your version (CS2)

They are on the server in my folder

Will post house later with slates and then I will start something new :slight_smile:

Tony: Just do what I did in the skateboard videos, then post your wips.

So that is why I never posted them before, they were made to
teach E5(Mark) for my HARDWIRED project so he is the only one that has ever seen them.

[color=DarkOrange]immortalx: The house is looking good, some nice details in there. Although it still looks a little to sharp on the edges. It may just be the renders to be honest because there doesn’t seem to be any shadows on them it might not be selling the curves if they are there.
If you are not sure what I am talking about feel free to download the model I made and have a quick look with meshsmooth on (or whatever it is on your modeller of choice)
But it’s a nice design, wish I had a house like that :stuck_out_tongue:

OK an update from me. I know it wasn’t really asked for but I wanted to keep in the swing of things and I did a search on google for outdoor toys. Found a nice climbing frame & a space hopper among other things. So I thought i would model the hopper and frame. Not my designs (obviously)

Anyway here they are together. The models are on the server.

freak : the edges you r talking about r going to be covered by wooden slabs on the outer walls of the house so ididnt use nurms smoothing which i normally use for my models.and as far as roofs are concerened they r normally edged alright.i saw some refrences and then made them.they r fine.iwill be finishing the side windows soon and give house the final touch.how many houses r you including in the animation?

Hey, good to see that you are still working at it.

As for the edges I’d agree with the freak.
Keep in mind we are all working to have the same style and look to our models.
We are shooting for a child like soft feel.

You don’t have to use mesh smooth but you should at least chamfer or fillet
the edges to make them round.

Think in your head of a baby’s play toy house but bigger full scale.

It is important that the models look like there are created by one mind.
You are going a bit off model with the hard corners a bit too real world looking…

And again make sure your house can be easily broken apart for texturing and other adjustments.

As for how many houses we need, I’m not sure yet I am going to do some more
work laying out the street, then I will have a better idea.
The camera will be floating down the street showing the kids playing.
Some houses Will be seen pretty close up in the shot some will be far.

Here are some examples just think of them as real house size.
Notice the soft round corners.

guess i got your point.you already had references in your mind considering the toy houses that ididnt know.i was going for real stuff.now you want me to use smoothing on all edges or only chamfering will do coz chamfering will still have more sharper edges than mesh smoothing just that from single edge it will be 2 or 3 close edges.got what i am saying.tell me .
