This fulfils the brief perfectly - a high tech landing pad in a canyon isn’t something that any of us have actually seen, but I think you have a done a great job of creating such a complex concept.

The design of the landing area, and the overall composition is great - and I agree with David that the energy FX are fantastic.

Vue is a great tool to create the ‘base’ of a matte painting, but it ALWAYS needs a lot of paint work and photo details to bring it up to a decent level of realism. This therefore looks unfinished - a solid base on which I would expect a lot of work to still occur.

Here’s a suggestion of where you could push the image, should you wish to:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

-Replace a lot of the procedural-looking Vue rocks with photo elements
-Replace the low-res sky
-Use haze and highlights to accentuate the interesting forms in your design, and create a greater sense of scale and depth
-Add some lighting from the energy beams on the canyon wall

Thanks for the awesome critiques David and Alex! Happy to place in the top 3 this month :).
I spent some more time on my painting to reflect your feedback.

Very nice, Hemal. The BG sky & (pinkish) planets were the only thing that kind’ve bothered me a little in your original, so it’s nice to see you took the judges good advice to improve it like this… looks fantastic! I really like the haze and the subtle color shift you’ve given it. The weird FG rock formations look more refined too. The whole thing has a scary, ominous, alien feel that’s definitely pretty powerful.
