Hello everyone,

This is my first time taking part in one of the challenges. I think its a brilliant way to Exchange points of view and workflow comments… BIG THANKS for arranging these.

I just started with CG Graphics and Matte Painting some months ago, an amateur really, but would like to work on this in a near future. Regarding the challenge, I started a couple days ago with some sketches looking for a nice composition. Still not clear about which one may work better, so I´ll keep it a bit open while modelling the ground and the foreground elements. Will post some updates later today.

Looking forward for your comments.

Alberto

Hi

I love this-mini challenge. This is the first time I’m taking part in the challenge. And I’m relatively new to DMP. So I’m excited to learn. Here’s what I’ve got so far- The first 4 WIPs. I still need to build the alien city into the rock-face.

Would love some crit. Thanks.

Nice concept sketches, Alberto… They all look very promising in my opinion.
The extreme angle of the third one is especially interesting to me.
Looking forward to seeing where you go with these!

(Oops! ZFS you need to post your own thread…)

Hi everyone,

David, I think you have to open a new thread up on the Matte Painting Mini Challenge Fórum. I think you have replied to mine but ideally you should have your own thread from the Fórum so that it is visible there for everyone. (I´m new at this as well but I think thats how we are supposed to do it).

So heres my work in progress… I have three images: a Sketch over a render, an early rendered image, and the sort of more developed viewpoint. I am modelling the city and the landing platform. I´ll use the third image as a back plate of the crevice on which I am working on at the moment. Will try and post some more by monday. (busy busy this weekend…).

Keep up w the good work!!

Alberto

Woops… I think on friday I uploaded the same images again. Just in case, and to comply… here are two of Friday´s images and progress from today.

Thanks for your feedback Thaddeus, I really appreciate. I have tried different angles, still not sure really. As per your comment, I tried to have a camera looking down for a third vanishing point view… but not fully convinced. Perhaps its because of the back plate… that I “froze” that part of the progress… lets see.

I hope you like the more developed one from today.

Regards to all!

Nice sketches, and real epic sense of scale and design with your architecture. I look forward to seeing it develop further!

Oops… sorry about that. :argh:
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Hi everyone, here´s another WIP from today. At this point I would “REALLY” appreciate your comments. (Thanks a LOT in advance). Thanks you Aaron for your comment, I hope you like the progress!!

BTW, could someone help me out?.. its a silly thing really… and I am new at this… my posted images only appear as thumbnails in the thread… how do I paste them large? I click up here but only “[IMG]” comes up… :S which I dont know what to do with it really… AND, more important… I can only upload/attach files of up to 97 kb… how are we supposed to upload the large final one? (sorry I am useless…)

Thanks again!!

Hey Alberto

Use http://photobucket.com/ to upload pictures to, then copy the url of the image you uploaded to photobucket and paste it into the mountain icon when you write a post.

Best of luck with the challenge. You have some cool ideas man

Todays update… almost there… comments would be much thanked… still needs some refining…

Not sure if the clouds /smoke is too … “unclean” for a DMP plate… :S … Lets see if I manage to upload large this time… (Thanks a lot Poul, really appreciate.)

This ended up looking really nice, Alberto! The machinery is all very detailed and imaginative.
