FcukThat.com // Articles, Downloadables, Artwork, Community

#1

I wish to start a project that I’ve had in mind for a while now, and have recently thought up a name for.

FcukThat.com is going to be a large news/community site devoted to keeping designers informed about the digital designing scene. Everything from web design to TV Promos will be covered to keep a wide audience coming back to the site over and over. The site will consist of many things such as articles concerning design, Photoshop downloadables (e.g: brushes), an art gallery where members can comment on recent artworks submitted by the sites team of artists, a forum and much more.

What I’m posting for is to find a staff for the site. There is a number of spots to fill which I need filled before I can really start getting ready to launch the site!

Please note that I CANNOT pay anyone that gets these jobs at the moment, but I may be able to if the site begins to gain an income in some way. The idea is for the staff to do this on a voluntary basis and possibly at some point in time receive payment, and in the end will gain something more than just money.

Columnist

The columnist is the person who writes the articles. This person needs to have a great understanding of the english language, good vocabulary and grammar, and above else an interesting personality. For example, browse through articles at http://www.wcreplays.com/ for articles written by Madadh. Everyone loves him for his sarcastic and humorous writing, and that’s what we need from our columnist. Something for the readers to look forward to in your next article.

Columnists will be writing one article a week, and if they wish to write more they can. There will be contests in the forums where guests can write articles and the winner will write an article on the next dropout (whenever a columnist can’t write an article for one reason or another). You get to choose all your article subjects but I’ll be suggesting a few.

Artist

An artist for the site will be part of the art team which posts artworks in the gallery for users to comment on. This person will need to have a distinct style, good knowledge of the program they use (the gallery will be displaying many different types of works from Flash work to vector work), an open mind to some possibly nasty comments from those people in the community that like to make comments just to piss people off, and of course the artistic skill to go along with it. Please don’t feel discouraged if you apply for this job and don’t get accepted, keep working at it. I’m looking for the best possible for this spot.

Basically if you create artworks often and like sharing them with others to discuss about, and all of the above requirements fit you, this jobs for you.

Downloadable Retriever

Though this job lacks a more creative name right now, it is indeed an important job. There are two kinds of downloadable retrievers: the kind that find people willing to have their downloadables to be hosted on the site, and the kind that create downloadables.

If you are able to create nice brushes, addons to programs, or anything that would be considered a downloadable, this job is for you. You get exposure and help out budding designers in their quest for easier design.

If you don’t have the time or the knowledge to create these downloadables, but still wish to help, you can help by finding people that are willing to have their downloadables hosted on the site, which is just as important as creating the downloadables.

Tutorial Writers

Exactly what the name says. You write tutorials on specific things in specific programs, such as how to make scanlines in Photoshop, or how to create alpha blends in Flash MX 2004. This person should have good knowledge of the english language, good spelling and grammar, and again, an interesting personality. I can’t stress that last point enough. That’s what makes an article or tutorial fun to read!

Forum Moderators

These people keep the peace. Just like the mods at CGTalk, you moderate the forums by cleaning up posts, keeping threads clean of unnecessary and off topic discussion. I will also be performing mod actions quite a bit. I won’t be needing too many mods to start with, but the need for more mods will come with more members.

Site Coders

Needed to code the site. I need this person(s) to have great knowledge of PHP and possibly MySQL. Here are a few of the things you will be coding:

Art Gallery - Contains a login system that allows the artists to login and upload artworks containing descriptions. The artworks will be appearing on the gallery page and will be able to be sorted by Name, Rating, Artist, Genre and Date. Users will be able to post comments and rate the artwork providing that they are logged in (similar to the way the DeviantArt gallery is setup). Since I will be designing the entire site and want everything looking smooth, it would be prefered that the gallery is skinnable and runs using an HTML template with tags for different variables (e.g: I would design the graphics and code the gallery page and simply type something like {ARTWORK} to include the image where I wanted it.) If you are still unsure about what I mean in regards to the skinnable gallery, please check out the template system on CuteNews, a free news managing script (http://www.cutephp.com/). Information from the gallery should also be accessable from any page on the site for things such as displaying the most recent artwork on the main page of the site.

Article/Tutorial Management System - Contains a login system that allows the artists to login and write articles that will be displayed on the article/tutorial section of the site. Articles will be able to be commented on as well as tutorials. Both articles and tutorials will have the ability to be spread across multiple pages (page 1, page 2, page 3). This part of the site will be extremely similar to CuteNews, in fact I might actually just use CuteNews if we’re running short on time, but I’d prefer to have this coded for the sake of having everything on the site belonging to the site alone.

Downloadables Section - Downloadable Retrievers will be able to login through the login system upload files through it including comments. The section will have to be able to access the sites ftp since I prefer not to have anything remotely hosted. He will be be able to select a downloadable genre such as Brushes, Addon, Themes, etc and that file will be uploaded as that genre, you get the idea. Users will be able to comment on downloadables regarding their functionality, look, and other things. These rating will be averaged out to create the downloadable’s rating.

If you can code these things, it’s more than likely than you can code the other things I have planned for the site.

Those are all the jobs that I have in mind right now. If you are interested in any of these jobs, contact me by either AIM or MSN:
