#1

I am trying to create a fan art for heather character from Silent Hill game. After completing the sketch I will soon color the artwork.

Here’s my artwork -

Here’s the references -

Here’s the pose that I am trying for -

I would like to receive feedback regarding the perspective and any other areas which needs
improvement.

Thanks in advance.

Hi.
I think the drawing can gain much with few changes in the arm. Your photo reference dind’t have sleeves so it’s difficult to appreciate how the foreshortening works. I hope you don’t mind I made a note on your drawing. It’s intended to point how I think this can be solve, not to tell you how you should do it. Actually, the sleeve will help you a lot to get the perspective right.

thanks for sharing,

Jorge

Hello Phoenix.

Things that could improve:

  • The gun is quite small compared to her hand. I don’t know if you’re aiming for a specific model, but in your reference at least it’s larger, silencer notwithstanding.
  • The tilt of the head feels exaggerated
  • Beware of the neck. In your reference, it’s partly hidden by her hair which makes it difficult to evaluate, but I think yours ended very thin.
  • Same goes for the fingers. The reference is blurred, but looking closely you can guess where the knuckles are. Thing is, with this angle we should have a raking view of her upper phalanx as well as the bottow two
  • The shape of the nose is a bit cartoony with its very round ala.
  • The trickiest : her expression. Right now, it’s empty, pretty much a blank stare… You need to apply subtle nudges on the eyelids and lips until we can understand where she’s looking at and read lips. That’s something you can fix in the shading phase, anyway.

You need to spend time on studying anatomy/figure and learn how people are structured. Right now, you’re relying on your ability to copy things, but without understanding the structure of what you’re trying to depict, and that’s how you end up running into problems. I see this throughout your portfolio, and it’s something you need to really work on.

Thank you all for your useful comments. I will make changes and update soon.

Just a quick one … the trigger guard appears to have no thickness or its as thin as paper making that area with the fingers look a little strange.

Thanks once again for all your comments.
I have tried to achieve the expression of fear on the face and made changes to neck, gun and modified overall.

one thing i notice the gun hand appears to be the same distance away from the viewer as the face i would increase the size of the hand and gun by a lot. also with the positioning of the hand to the body the end of the gun barrel would be bigger then the stock. i would also work on the area that jorgepozo pointed out as well. Cheers man
