Facial Capture Software

#1

I work at a company that recently started using a Vicon motion capture system. Capturing is all well and good and applying recorded body motion data is not a problem but I’m having trouble finding a way to satisfactorily apply recorded facial capture data to a model that has already been rigged. FaceRobot gives great results but, as far as I’m aware, requires you to re-rig your model and I’ve been dissatisfied with the way MotionBuilder and FaceFX work (taking pre-set poses and using your motion capture data to blend between those poses). I find that MotionBuilder’s method saps out a lot of the nuance and detail from what you’ve captured. I’m wondering if there is a third way: some means of using the captured points as directly as possible, but without having to rely so heavily on pre-set poses and without having to create a new rig. I’ve spent a great deal of time trying to find another software solution but have so far been unable to find one. Any ideas?

i would maybe try to snapshot facial capture and then blend facial skinning in your original 3d software.

FaceRobot goes through an automatic rigging and solving process so you don’t need any rigging knowledge really. When done with the mocap and refinement, you bring the head’s point cache to your desired 3D software, so no rig is necessary.
Since you are one of the very few that owns a Vicon, I would stick to FaceRobot.
The rig FR creates is very elaborate and difficult to match even for a master TD.
