I’m using a 2.53.1 build by loopduplicate. In compositing, how do you plop down a control node? With 2.49a, I could put one down by Ctrl + LMB, and that would control volume of a track.
F-curves won't work
I’m going to guess that you meant sequencing - if so, right click on the volume property and choose insert key frame.
There is no volume property. All I see is the cursor position. I made a video to show what is happening: http://livestre.am/lqcK . I’ve tried 5 different builds of 2.53, including the official beta. I have Win7 x64. I’m trying to add keyframes in the F-curve window, but opening up the F-curve properties thing with N and then hitting uppercase i does nothing. Just watch the video, it’s way clearer than I can explain.
EDIT: I think I figured out part of the puzzle to using F-curves. You don’t add a keyframe by RMB in the F-Curve window, you do it by RMB the attribute in the time line sequencer. It adds a keyframe where the cursor currently is in the F-curve window. But you can’t add it in directly into the F-curve window, no, that would be crazy. Any advice on how to select, move, and fine-tune stuff in the F-curve window?
I’m no expert with the curve editor, but don’t have to add a keyframe in curve editor?
Like adding a handle to it?
Not sure about volume though…?
there are scaling…
–ohh oops you edited, yes you can move the keyframe…
ummm…what?
I’m encountering another problem with the sequencer now, too. It’s not playing any of the audio at all.
EDIT: solved the muted track problem. I had to go into the user preferences of Blender and select SDL instead of No Sound. Also, I picked out a different track that actually had sound at the start of it.
It’s quite clear how you add keyframes. In the Clip properties (press N to show the properties and select a sound track) for the sound channel RMB over the volume value (if you want to animate the clip volume) and select Insert Keyframe. This then adds the appropriate channel in the graph editor. You can then Ctrl+LMB to add more keyframes or at the correct frame chaneg the volume value and insert keyframe again.
You can’t just add an initial keyframe in the graph editor because it won’t know what channel to apply that to.
This whole process of adding keyframes applys throughout the whole blender 2.5 interface.
Awesome, that works, thanks! Any idea what attenuation does? once I bring a keyframe below the zero volume mark into negative territory, the attenuation goes really high, and the audio quality has noise, like clipping artifacts.
Not sure how much it helps, but all I can offer on attenuation is its definition from google.
google example(fromamongst multiple):
Maybe then like ‘low pass attenuation in the volume of the sound weakens the bass’ for an example?
So it sounds like attenuation by this definition is just keeping the volume constant or higher by reducing the power sent to the bass frequencies.
I only used low-pass as an example, in this case I’m not sure what exactly it’s supposed to apply to,
if to the overall sound then they might as well call it volume.
Guess I’m saying that I’m as confused as anyone.
