Eye distortion on characters

I have a tube like character that is able to bend across its full length. This is done in 3DS MAX with bones and the Skin modifier.

However, as you can see in the image below, the eyes is distorted with the rest of the body/face.

What I would like to know is how can I now get the eyes to look around while maintaining that distortion and their position?
