I don’t think it can be done, at least not in a simple and elegant way. Even if it is only a simple material using a bitmap texture, you can not export it with an object correctly most of the time as the UV coordinates don’t export well (don’t ask me why).
Vue materials can be fairly complex and use functions, that are not available in most “real” 3D programs. I’d suggest to try and analyse the Vue material and then try to recreate it in your 3D program. Not a very fast solution but you’ll learn a lot.
Of course, if you only need to integrate a Vue scene in your 3D program, xStream is the way to go - but I guess you already know that.
I would suggest 2 ways: export your object from Vue with “generate maps” option on. Vue will create a bitmap that tries to match the procedural material, the result can be good, but can be pretty bad too, the process of converting a procedural material into a bitmap doesn’t always give good results.
2nd option would be to create a plane, apply the material to it, and render from the top camera. Be sure to untick the cast and receive shadows boxes, and the indirect lighting box too. Then save the render and use it as a texture map in Maya.
Having just upgraded to 7 Infinite, I’ve been giving myself eye strain running through the PDF manual: Your answer may lie on pages 153-158. I’d like to offer you a more concise explanation - but being a ‘learner’ myself, it is somewhat beyond me!
Good luck…
