Export Long Video

#1

Hi everyone, i want to edit a 20 min video and i wanted to ask to all of you, which format would you suggest me to export it, in order to keep it´s size as small as possible but without loosing to much quality, i want to know this because i´ve never render such a long composition and i want to know what kind of issues i will be facing.

I´m planning to edit it in after effects, because i try it in premier but apparently it doesnt export anything bigger than 3 gbs, and i didnt find anything on the net about how to solve this.

Thanks in advance

What you need it for? Web, DVD, broadcast?

i need to burn it into a data DVD (Master copy) and send it to a friend how is going to export it into whatever they need, i think it´s for a dvd presentation.

Since you (or your friend) are going to transcode a second time I suggest the animation codec. It’s not top of the pops when it comes to reducing file size but keeps the quality.

If it doesn’t fit on one data DVD, just split it in pieces and use multile DVDs. I personally wouldn’t compromise image quality just for saving empty DVDs.

If the file is going to DVD you could create an MPEG of the video and send it to your friend - although authoring tools are picky and usually require uncompressed files to start with.

Like scrimski said - Animation QuickTime is probably the best solution, if that doesn’t fit then use the photo JPEG codec for QuickTime, but the compression will be more noticeable and if it is going to be compressed for DVD the end result may not be as pristine.

One further possibility to consider: The file size limit you saw from Premiere might actually be a limit from your file system. FAT32 has an intrinsic 4GB limit. You simply can’t have a file bigger than that on the disk. If that is the case, you may need to make an image sequence instead. The sequence can be spread out across a number of DVDs and loaded into the editor of the client’s choice to be compressed into whatever format they need.

FAT32 is commonly used on portable drives because it can be accessed by both Windows and MacOS. It’s relatively rare to see it on an internal drive these days, but it does happen. To check the file system in Windows, right-click on the drive in “My Computer” and choose “Properties.” It will be the third entry under the General tab.
