so, i want to put a ball in a cage and have it inflate until it’s geometry is squeezing out inbetween the bars on the cage. then it finally explodes.
Any ideas on method??

so to elaborate… I basically want to scale/expand a ball inside a cage mesh, but somehow have the parts of the ball mesh that come into direct contact with the cage mesh be held back by the geometry.
you could try to use a volume-select modifier on your ball, and using the box’s grids as selections for the ball, assign a push or a morph modifier to squeeze in/out the ball.
Hope that helps!

thanks for that reply i am however looking for a way to achieve it in max using dynamics similar to ncloth(maya) obviously reactor and im guessing soft body…
Hi Debneyink,
Unless there is a specific reason that you need a dynamics solution I’d go with theotheo’s suggestion - far simpler to set up and control. In my experience you could easily spend weeks trying to achieve the effect you’re describing using a physics simulation.
Obviously it’s up to you how you tackle it - just my two penneth
