Eporting Painted Texture From Mudbox 2009

#1

Ok… so I’ve got my UV’s layed out… brought my model into Mudbox 2009… Painted some nice textures with the new paint layers and painting tools…

I Understand that to get the Displacement Maps and Normal Maps out I go to Maps Extract Texture Maps… but how do I export the painted texture that I’ve created with the new paint tools?

I’ve searched help and this forum and can’t find any trace of this… I know it must be there somewhere?

Other than that I’m loving version 2009 painting and sculpting together is great!

Thanks in advance.

save your file…
and mud saves the textures in an extra folder named filename-files…

Thanks Christoph,

I was expecting to have to export myself… Mudbox exports the texture layers as seperate files… I can’t see a way to merge the layers in Mudbox, what is the be workflow? to use the exported textures with a layered shader node in Maya?

Or do I need to flatten them together in Photoshop first?

Thanks for your help.

This video of mine from the quickstart series should help. (You can find the other quickstart videos either on my site or TheArea.)

Thanks Wayne,

We’ve actually watched most of your videos which are excellent… my wife has been using Mudbox too and thinks you’re great!

I hadn’t seen that one however so thanks… The only way I could think to merge them was to drop each texture into a layerset then drag them together… major pain.
Your workaround is miles quicker.

Surely a merge layers / save as psd function will appear in a future release?

Anyway we’ll use the workaround until then.
