Sorry for posting more career-type stuff here, but I figured it might be instructive for people other than myself to hear about.
So, I just recently recieved a BA in computer graphics and have moved out to LA to attempt to start a career.
In school, I specialized in the technical side of things - got to know how to code in Renderman (RSL,RIB) and Maya (MEL,API) quite well, along with C/C++, UNIX, that sort of stuff.
My ambition, for the short term, is to become a technical director - probably shading, lighting or FX.
However, I have several problems. First, my reel is lacking. I spent most of my time learning and coding, and less time making pretty pictures. Second, I don’t really think I have the experience and credentials to walk onto a job as TD.
Given all this, I feel like I’m the perfect candidate for a low-level tech job.
Unfortunately, these jobs are somewhat hard to find. I applied to job postings by Imageworks, Digital Domain and Rythum & Hues via email, but got no reply. I’m not sure what to conclude from that.
Regardless, my question to you all is this: how can I find such a job?
Like most of my peers, I’ll do ANYTHING to get my foot in the door. Perhaps unlike some of my peers, I think I could do a REALLY good job in such a position.
For reference, here is my resume:

Thanks very much for any help you guys can offer,
