Encountered a problem with a hard crease I cant seem to smooth out

#1

Hey guys, wondered if you could help me out with a small problem that has popped up.

I’m modelling a block character and on one side of his face, I have this weird crease that has appeared near his jaw.

I’ve tried messing around with the normals, so I dont think its that. I’ve tried averaging out the vertices, still with no luck. Just wondering if anyone else has any ideas in how to get it to look flat again. Preferably with out smoothing the mesh.

Heres a picture of the topology.

And here’s a picture with the wireframe turned off so you can see the effect it is leaving on the model.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thankyou

First guess for me would be to unlock the normals. Then select the polygon faces and flatten/harden their normals. I run into issues like this when I’ve imported models from other applications into Maya. The unlock option should be in the same menu as soften/harden normals.

Don’t have Maya open in front of me so I hope I’m using the right names for operations. Hope that helps.

Hey pixelque, thanks for the reply! Unfortunately when I soften/harden the normal it has no effect on the dent/crease.

However when rendering in Mental ray, the crease doesn’t seem visible anyway. Hoping it doesn’t show in Unity either. I’ll test that out tonight.
