Efficient process for modeling hair in Zbrush 4R6

#1

Hello, I’m attempting to teach myself to sculpt in Zbrush, since I’m interested in sculpting more so than animation.

I’ve managed to sculpt a female head using various tutorials, but I’m having trouble on deciding which would be the best way to model hair. I’ve seen videos where it looks like the sculptor is appending a polysphere to the head, and others where the hair is extruded from the mesh using masking/clay buildup. Are there other ways I’m overlooking that are better? My impression of Zbrush (and most other modeling programs) is that the tools are variable and it’s up to the sculptor as to how they’re used to get certain features/effects.

I’ll admit I don’t have much experience with animation or modeling language, so please have patience with me.

I’ve included a screenshot of one angle of the work so far. I started from a sphere, though it seems to be that everyone recommends beginning from a base mesh. I had trouble finding a good, free female bust base mesh, which is mildly embarrassing.
