Effect question

#1

Hi guys, does any of you have an idea how its possible to create shapes similar to the one in the attached example?
The only idea I myself could think of is the AEFlame plugin, but it doesnt fit exactly as it has kinda noisy look and it works only in AE 6,5 as far as I know. So any tips would be appreciated. Thank you!

AEFlame was the first thing that came to mind for me too. Running it on CS3 and CS4 shouldnt be a problem, but I can see the grain being an issue. The only way to fix that is to increase the quality of the aeflame settings, but that exponentially increases render time.

Another option would be to take renders from another program that makes fractals such as Apophysis, but you need scripts to make animations and the settings can be equally as finnicy. You might be able to get some results with trapcode form or particular with alot of tweaking.

Particular 2 should do the trick - from what I’ve seen it does do smoke like effects like that pretty well - but how well I’m not sure.

Form might be a little tricky to use - but there’s no sense in not trying.

A down and dirty trick might be to do something like what Andrew Kramer did with fractal noise - but use the Liquify tool to create the swirls and such.
