effect question

i’m trying to create a mosiac picture where the tiles are small pictures. If you stand back and look you see one image and if you stand closer you see lots of little images. i’ve tried a few different ways of dissolving and overlaying a larger image over a collage of small pics but have not got it to look good. any tips?

my best result so far has the small images flatten to one layer set to soft light, the large image at 80& opacity below it and the small images flatten to one layer set as the bottom layer…

There are quite a few downloads that can be used for that - some free.

Do you people use PS effects, like outer glow while doing some shiny armor or metal pieces?

Shiny Armour? Hmm - I would think that that is achieved with drawing techniques and not with styles. However if you want shiny metal as a text effect go here:

Do a search for metal and you will get a mountain of styles and actions for that effect. Although - like I said it isn’t recommended to use in a digital painting.

Yes - it costs money, but it is a thorough and in depth tutorial on painting techniques relating specifically to armour. That site is addictive though and I have found myself spending hours just looking at it - so you are forwarned.

Yes, I am pretty new in digital paintings, using only Photoshop, only 2D drawings.

Great links, especially last video. Working on my first character painting, I’ll post it on sketchbooks forum part later. Used outer glow on some part of shining alien-type skin. Just testing myself.
