editing motion capture walk to face a certain direction

i have a .bip file walk cycle that I need to edit to face and walk along it the positive y axis if possible. Could anyone tell me how to do this or atleast throw me some ideas of what i could try. Just wondering if possible so i dont have to create a walk cycle by hand.

Make sure your entire rig/skeleton is the child of a null/locator/dummy or some other object, apply the mocap data to your skeleton and then use the parent object to re-orient and place the character in your scene.
