Dynamic Guitar Strings Feasible or Farcical?

#1

So here goes, I am working on a guitar rig at present, to add to my portfolio as a ‘prop’. Partly because I think it’s an interesting test of my skills in many respects, but also just because I love guitars…

Here is the latest render (please feel free to critique that as well if that is permitted)

I digress, I am struggling with rigging the strings. I started by creating a Cubic CV curve with 4 CVs and simply controlling the middle two via the Connection Editor and a dedicated control; not the most elegant solution but it worked initially.

Now however, I am trying to keep that manual functionality whilst also experimenting with Dynamic strings that would react to say a piece of geometry (a polygonal plectrum set as a passive collider). My problem is that I cannot seem to work both functionalities into the same rig.

I hope I have explained myself sufficiently, and if anyone has any suggestions or possible solutions that I might try I would greatly appreciate it.

im sure its possible with dynamics but its a waste of time imo. better to use clusters for moving the string then mix in a blend shape for the actual vibration. much easier to control and 100% less.headaches
