Not 100% sold on the design…as my senseless scribbles show. Anyhow…haven’t done any 2d work in years and this looked like fun.

#363

ravensbane: Hey, Lookin nice.

#364

Wow, this thread is growing at an insane rate. Let’s see… everyone has such good pics, I’d be hard pressed to choose a ‘best’ one.

I’m going to do the ones I can scroll down and see on the ‘reply thread’ page…

OKMER: I really like the newest version. I’m pleased to see you around, you always bring so much personality into your works. Maybe if you tipped his head a bit to make him look like he’s curious about something, he has a little glint in his eye that suggests a spark in there…

Nicolay: General Magato, now he looks like a General! I particularly like the design of his helmet, no crits. (from me anyway, I’m sure people with keener eyes might notice something??)

Darkriddles: I see where you’re going with this…I think the hat is in for a LOT of lighting though and the whole thing could do wth a bump up in contrast, but it’s going well, keep going!

DeadintheAttic: Yeah, you said it. It looks like 300! I think it’s the combination of the beard, the spartan helmet and the scream… it’s good though, I can’t deny it, but the lighting seems rather off- for such a dark day, with the light behind him and
with the helmet on, his face looks very brightly lit…squint your eyes at it and you’ll see what I mean. Love the plume on the helmet though!

Eisineturk: Love the angry look on his face.

Ravensbane: love the colour palette and the breastplate!

J4Q: Lol! General rottweiler, good one…

Neurolinked: I like the CGS tattoo on the head and the layout, the face is a bit lopsided though- try drawing terrain lines over it to line things up…

petes: looking fantastic so far, looking forward to seeing it done!

yaknonosuke: another fantastic one. Maybe bring up the contrast a little more in some key areas? I love the soft wideness of it though…

Jushra: Looking good, like the design of hte helmet. I think maybe making the background darker might help bring out the figure some more? Just an idea.

here's my update, I think I'm nearly finished. Crits very welcome....

That “Thing” scares the hell out of me…

What is it ?!? :curious:

Good work… strange… but good.

This is General Poodly, one of a long line of the mutant rabbit generals. He came about as a result of a nuclear war that killed off all the humans- only the strongest rabbits survived, but somewhat modified. They became smarter and formed armies against each other. This particular general is at the head of the Diffidil army, which rewards bravery with ribbons (all the metal was melted during the nuclear blast but somehow the ribbons survived).

However, a particularly brainy rabbit with a crest of white hair has just discovered E=mc^2…

paperclip: haha, your portrait is cute  … would like to cuddle him g didn’t find him very scary on first sight… but after looking on it for a while this is sure freaky

okmer: hm, yeah really go with the last one, the bg rectangle reminds me of a playing card, dunno why?

nikolay: wow nice one… really like the head decoration…

darkriddles: i feel theres a little bit to much black on her face… but the pose is nice

ravensbane: very dynamic, the color adds alot to it… looking forward

so much going on here… commenting to all would take so much time… go on cgs!!

some minor updates and cleanup of the sketch, made layers, added some first hard edges and stuff… ah well… and always flipping the canvas, as for now i like this one more…
need to add ornaments and buttons for the jacket tomorrow, after that, more cleanup… didn’t have much time today…

C&C always welcome guys

Cool stuff everyone! I forgot my sketch at work, I’ll post it up tomorrow ok!

Ersinerturk: Nice silhouet, but hands blend together a bit though…what about making him raise his pinkyfinger, that would make him just a tad more cocky…:stuck_out_tongue:

Ravensbane: Nice painterly style you have man, nice posing of the character aswell! I like the details on the body, just be sure they don’t overpower the face of the character…just put somre more details on the face and you’ll be fine

j4q:Nice one man, like the look on his face! What about adding dogtags in his ears that represent his ranking in the army!

Neurolinked: Do I detect an in-ear iphone there?

PeteS: Cool, looking forward to seeing some shading in this one!

Yakonusuku: Nice one! Now that’s a sword…:stuck_out_tongue:

Stridiggio: Cool setup, maybe crop out only the upperbody, from the necklace up or something, and go from there?

Paperclip: My favourite sofar! I’m a sucker for cute cuddly fuzzly ookiewooky ippispiffy I’’ kill you with my rabbitbunny stick creatures! Only thing a bit odd is the shoulder on the left of the pic,it gives an indication of humanoid proportions which is a bit odd I think. What about taking out that shoulder, and add an indication of a bodyline around the height of his ears, so it looks like he’s a hunched character…just a thought! Eitherway, he remains my favourite :stuck_out_tongue:

Tomorrow I should be able to scan in what I’ve got sofar, till then!

Filling in. I darkened the bg (advice from paperclip), and I may end up darkening it more and changing the hue a bit.

#372

This is looking promising…but I’d still crush the blacks allot more…maybe add an adjustment layer and crush it till you get some nice solid blacks in the helmet shadows…I think it will help the face too.

#373

Quoted for agreement. Something that usually helps is to put a new layer on top, then squint your eyes like mad and just use random colours in different values (DARK, low-medium and high-medium, save the bright brights for later) and lay them in until you can tell what it is without having to open your eyes too much…it goes towards getting a good base for the lights/darks.

rhemrav: lol, I love how you like the insane look in his eyes, the fact that he has no nose, etc and still say that his shoulder looks odd. I kind of like it though…hmm…

syrez-one: I want to hug him too.

Really like your piece, particularly around the skull/wig. The concept is cool, reminds me of the skeleton pirates in Pirates of the Carribean. The jacket could use some texture, but I’m sure you’ll get around to that. Love the classical look you’re rocking there…

#374

Hey Okmer, Keep your original design. I like the first one better… All you have to do is add in depth and realizm to that piece and you have a winning piece, trust me.

#375

Hi Patrick I like your work. Your shading pops out the character which is really nice to look at… Good work…

#376

here’s my update, I think I’m nearly finished. Crits very welcome…

Paperclip, my wife likes this piece the most, she adores your work…congrats

#377

David, good piece of work… everyday this piece is coming into strong…can’t wait to see the final result…

#378

Justin, this piece looks great. I can suggest outlining the character with more depth of a darker color and fine the lines a bit, looking good.

#379

Christian, good work… I love the sparta look… He has action, a commanding force to him… Looks like a strong leader, keep it up…love the armor look.

#380

Nabil, good piece of work I like the painting style to him. He looks very dignified and dynamic. Keep up the good work, can’t wait to see the final result…
