Looking awesome man! I love abyssal mermaids!
DWIV-2D-Gaeasherald-Abyssal Siren
You look almost done, anything ells would almost over saturate it. One little thing, totally personal, I’m not super into the things hanging off her horn, but the rest is looking tight, keep it up!
Hi guys, I’ve been quite busy with my neverending report and haven’t been able to work on this much…
adriendebos: wow, what an honor! The original abyssal mermarid DW medalist, I’m so glad you found this entry. If my character is a tenth as good as yours I can consider myself lucky. Thanks for dropping by.
Ferx: hey Fernando, thanks for your comments man. I tried to get done with the modeling sheet pretty fast, so that I can use it as self reference to properly pose the character. It may still need a few adjustments, but for the time being it’ll have to do. CYA mate.
live2contage: thanks dude, and yeah the things hanging from her horn probably need more work. It’s just that they are so small compared to the rest of the character that I dont know if it’s worth it. I’ll see if I can improve it if I get some spare time
Hexahedron: thanks man and good luck with your lady/monster!
Well, managed to work a few minutes on this and made a quick perspective study of the siren. Added a little stick figure-dude to see how much it would occlude, but now I’m thinking of adding more than one other character as prey. We’ll see how that works out…
Not really concerned about the pose yet, just trying to figure out the right angle. Tried a birds eye perspective, but it doesn’t really work for me. Next I’ll go for a 2 point perspective, and after that a frog perspective, which I think will be the right one.

The red eye on the corner represents the next angle to be tried out. I promise to make a proper sketch next time.
C&C welcomed.
Hi,
great approach to a siren design! I guess the color will reinforce the design.
Keep teh good work!
Best

Great concept and Character design! Great Model sheet! everything about it is great!
inspite of checking most of the threads, i happened to miss this awesome thread :banghead:
i really admire your ability to draw the character from different angles… wow! you rock! :buttrock: looking forward for more updates…
Hi dude,
You are doing a great work here. Cant wait to see the color palette. I know that you use very well the colors.:buttrock:
Keep it up:beer:
MrRico, Ataulfo: Thank you guys for the support. I’m aching to do some color, but I’ll have to work on the pose and perspective first. Hopefully next week I’ll begin colouring.
namnocilis: dude I totally know how crazy this challenge is, and the sheer amount of posts per day is overwhelming. Sorry to have missed your thread too, but its never to late to catch up, right? Cya my friend!
somewhat better. I’ve figured out the angle I want for the siren, and I’m starting to explore the posing and feel of the scene. Not sure yet what the relative size to the other characters (prey) is, whether she should be bigger or smaller, or same size. What do you guys think?

and this is a little study of the perspective:

As always, C&C are most welcomed.
This is exciting! Intricate and mysterious creature… And I have a thing for sirens/mermaids
Awesome
I like the design but I think the beast’s body needs to be larger and meatier and slimier and altogether more disgusting. I love the perspective view in #85 and I think the comparitive size of the characters is about right there too. Also, I don’t think she should be wearing clothes (yeah, I would say that!) I reckon with a bit of creative posing you can avoid showing anything 18-rated and it would appear more like she’s a part of the creature rather than someone who’s been captured. Mmm, greasy naked tentacle women…
MarianneM: Thanks a lot. Yeah, mermaids are fascinating.
BaronImpossible: greasy naked tentacle women??? That sounds like cephalopod-porn ! I agree, the creature must look more disgusting and the girl more erotic (oh my!). I thought she could be teasing her prey with her bra o something, but I gotta keep it PG13 tho…
Lots of thanks for all the input.
Well, to hell with the PG rating, I’m showing her boobs! I’m not even going to worry about making a strange pose to hide them, I gotta give people what they’ve been asking for:

I want to pick one for the final picture and another for the concept sheet, which one do you guys prefer? I kinda like D cause it helps tell the story, and is the closest I can get to the Lovecraft inspiration behind this concept.
All feedback is appreciatted!
thanks for the comment will do that and I like the choice of d to. Like the way its coming along this is much harder for me than the mini challenge was, but I will differently keep in mind the comments you made.
D and B! I am glad you decided to show boobs. Man when are you starting some color!
yeah I’m glad you decided to show boobs too. Makes it more believable as a monster. I’m not sure about giving the creature part eyes though. Because then it looks like 2 creatures combined. If the monster suppose to be a hermit crab thing, maybe makes the mass of the shell bigger or the body more stretched out so that it would look possible for it to retreat inside the shell?
Anyway it’s a sweet design, mate and I’m sure it will turn out great!
ChaosShannon: at your service man. Just don’t get stressed and enjoy the ride. BTW, you should add the link to your thread in your signature, so it’s easier to find you.
GregStrangis: You know what they say: boobs are a mans best friend! lol I can’t wait to start coloring, but first I have to get the linedrawing done, do some value studies and only then begin the coloring. It has taken me a while, but I finally realised that taking the time in the initial phases really pays off. I’ll let you know when it begins
KtfFang: I see, if one wants to be successful in this business one has to show boobs. You’re right, the monster wasn’t believable without them. About the eye thing, think of it as if the girls eyes were just for aesthetic pusposes, to fool the prey. The real creature is the monster behind.
Well, the concept sheet is done, just shaded de girl poses and added some variation to them (pose and lighting). Here’s the end result:

Lovecraft all the way man, just dont get kicked out, because of all the nudity bull
I like how everything is going, but you do have one major challenge in front of you. From what I gather her weapon is seduction right (or is that the squids? bastard eats all the good food  ), anyhow I think she need more beauty, there has to be something enchanting about her gaze. When drawing woman, the face can make or break the whole thing, I dont even bother, to hard for now. Its going to be a real challenge but thats good, and Im sure youll get her looks so good shell keep that lazy squid fat and happy for all his days. Thanks for dropping by, un dia nos juntamos a tomar un mate, dale che.
live2contage: dale Daniel, sale mateada abrileña. Debería haber un smiley tomando mate, en vez del beerchug. About the face, yep its gonna be a challenge, particulary because it’s relatively small compared to the rest of the creature. Getting the expresion right is very important. Oh, and don’t worry about the breasts, I’ve seen plenty of ther entries with boobs showing, and it doesn’t seem to be to much of a deal. Que andes bien!
Well, I’ve begun the lineart for the final image, I still don’t know if the setting is going to be a forest, or an inner courtyard from a hidden city, or next to a doorway/entrance, o who knows what. But the general idea is that the siren is luring some elven guards and breaking into a magic-protected norm-elvish city. One guard is already dead, and the other is being drawn to her like flies to honey.

It may look a bit messy ATM, but with colour and atmospheric perspective everything should read better.
Any input, comment or crit is highly appreciatted!
