Wow, lots of useful critisicim, I’ll see if I my brain can process it all :D.

GregStrangis: computer I guess, or maybe a bit of both. dunno yet

ShogunWarrior: thanks man, are U participating form the main event? After that cool general from the miniDW I think you should!

Innate: very helpful comment, I really appreciatte it that you took the time to write all that feedback. Let me see if i can answer it all… Yes, the girls eyes need to be open, i’ll keep that in mind. THe creatures eye… hmm… I’ll try to make it less cartoony you’re right, but I still want it to look human. The idea is that it’s quite shocking to find sth so familiar and recognizeable in a such a weird creature. I also find it easier to get emotions across that way. About the thing coming out of her head, I like the idea of a tentacle wrapping around her neck as a scarf. I’ll check that link out. A MILLION THANKS!!!

Akiman: right, it’s all wrong. Shoulders are my enemies you know?

BaronImpossible: Simon, I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to do that man. It’s like making two creatures at the same time, with distinct personalities, but that are in fact the same creature (so that noone is controling the other really) and the brain behind it all is in the squid… It’s a lot of information to put into a still image. I guess the right way to go is to make it so ambiguous that each viewer can choose who he/she thinks is in charge. Anyway, liked to hear your opinion and your suggestions are very very interesting.

OKMER: My general! Have you decided to join in and lead us into battle sir? CGS needs you (we should have a poster of some sort of Uncle Sam dressed in reds and greys pointing his finger at us and saying that) Yep, she’s stiff, gotta fix that in newer scketches. All the fun to you too mate!

Hi guys, been working a bit on this character, and decided to start the modeling sheet. I’ve already got the rough idea of how I want her to look, and my biggest issue is finding the right pose. So i’ll give the modeling sheet a go, and when its done I’ll get back to sketches and try to find a nice angle and feel for the final piece.

Recycled the first sketch and started working on front and back views:

The front and back view will have to be cut into two halves to show everything properly. Mermaid halves will come soon.

BTW, I wanted to share with you guys this thing I’ve been using for “reference”:

Its an abstract sculpture I carved back in highschool, and the curves and translucency it has are an interesting source of inspiration. See if you find the similarities…

C&C most welcomed.

wow thats awesome I love those lines with sculls on the back, silhouette is great too

#64

This sketch is turning out nice and creepy. Cool stuff.

I think the latest concept (side view) is better because the “woman” appears smaller and so looks like part of the bigger creature. I think the success of the final image will be how you position the creature. You clearly have the technical skills, it’s just a case of getting the composition down, with maybe the “woman” in full view and strongly lit with the main beast lurking in the shadows, maybe part camouflaged with a sly look in its eye.

Here’s an example - Bobby Chiu’s Bunny Eater, where the monster blends in with the jungle. Obviously the style’s different but it’s a similar concept - http://www.imaginismstudios.com/round2/wp-content/gallery/bobby/big-bad-bunny-eater-art.jpg

Hey dude,
Completly agree with BaronImpossible. Your last sketch is so much nicer than the other picture. The render, the details etc… I think the posing and the composition on the picture front view is flattening everything and you lose completly the overall shape idea of the character.

Nice design though. Looks good!

#67

Nice work man! Can’t wait to see more!

#68

I love her silhouette from the side man, its so dynamic! The back looks awesome as well. When do you think you are going to start color?

#69

Hey Gerardo,

Cool updates my friend!! Like a lot the cloth design, great!. I´m agree with the perspective and composition issue, but I´m totally sure that you will found a nice composition, dont worry  Simon make a really good suggestion, and that reference image can help to your concept for sure.
Working on the model sheet for now is a wise decision  and is looking really nice! Keep the great work!! and waiting for more updates! Cheers my friend!!

Hi guys, thanks for all the words of encouragement and feedback. I’ll have to take a few days off of this cause I’m about to finish my career and I gotta get done with my final report, which I’ve been neglecting :argh:…

Anyway…

nellement: thanks man, yeah one can’t call oneself a demon without skulls, right?

Sepulverture: Glad you liked it. Cheers!

BaronImpossible: Simon, you’re full of useful advice and a really appreciatte all the imput you’ve given me  And to be even remotely compared with Bobby Chiu is a great compliment! That’s just the kind of feel I aiming at, with different style of course.

CharlesVarenne: thanks dude, and yep, posing of the character is complicated. Trying to show specific elements, getting the right feel and not losing the proportions in the way is my biggest challenge for this one!

Stutts: OK mate, I’ll do my best to post soon, but it may take a while. Thanks for dropping by.

GregStrangis: Happy you approve Greg, you’ve been very supportive and I thank you tons for that. I’m pushing the coloring phase forward, cause I always tend to rush into it with poor results. I think I’ll go for a blueish background, a warm orange main light and some purple accents, but it’s still to early to know .

Ferx: Gracias Fernando! Hey man, I can’t wait to see more of your updates. Don’t keep us waiting!

ShogunWarrior: Thanks a lot, I’ll try not to dissappoint U.

Akiman: Much appreciatted. Cya around man.

g3p: Super! Hope you like the wips to come too!

#74

OK, I know I said I was gonna take some days off, but I’m weak and gave into temptation :hmm:
Sop, here’s a small update:

At this rate, I’m never gonna get my degree…

#75

Hey Gerardo,

You are advancing a lot with the model sheet, more free time for the final composition and painting  Cheers!!

#76

Ahh man this desing just flows so nicely! Love the backend with all the skulls! I think her left breast is smaller then her right tho…

#77

Nice! This is looking good.

#78

Hi Gerardo,

Great stuff. I like a lot the last sketch.
keep it up, dude

#79

Amazing concept, amazing illustration. Can’t wait!

#80

Ferx: you caught me! Yep I’m trying to get the most time for the final piece. Cheers mate!

GregStrangis: LOL, yeah she has a deflated boob :argh:, that’s not very seductive right? I’ll try to fix it.

Hatonacat: thanks a lot!

Ataulfo: wow, two tumbs up! Muchas gracias Ivan!

patdunal: thanks. Nice to see someone who’s going the same direction as me. Good luck!

Another small update, the modeling sheet is almost finished. Maybe I’ll add some close-ups in the bottom corner, but this is basically it. Hope you like it!
