Looking great so far. Tough choices on color! I don’t have a clear favorite so I’ll just talk about some of the differences: ‘A’ may be the “official” red, but it’s too intense for this character. But you knew that, so you only tried it out the first time and then wisely ditched it for a more subdued red. You might also want to fool around with a red that’s more saturated but darker, a darker shade the red in A.

I also agree with you that ‘E’ is too much red. There’s no real reason all the ties have to be the same color.

The problem I’m having in choosing is that the white armor just feels too light to me, so that only leaves B. B is okay, but there’s no contrast between the ties and the armor on the legs & torso, which makes that area less interesting than on the others. What about B with black ties wherever the ties show up against metal? Alternately, you’ve only tried 2 metal colors… How would D look with black metal?

Anyhow, looking really nice so far. My favorite part of all is the intricately-designed scroll-work on the leg plates. Such a nice design! Anyhow, good luck with choosing!

Very good points Michael. Personally, I thought C, D, and E had a color that was too light as well but I wanted to see what the reaction was of other artists. Here are some more screenshots for everyone to consider based off of what you said, and me combining some ideas. One of the screenshots(H) has a metal not as light or dark as the original screenshots. I might go a little darker (between G and H) as I plan on having dust/dirt on him and it will show up better if the armor is a touch darker I feel. G is a tad too dark but with some color thrown on the smaller designs in the armor it will help it pop a little. Right now I’m kind of leaning toward H. I is a screenshot of when I was playing around with more brown leather straps, which I don’t like at all. I figure it is good to see what you all think though.

I spent a little time roughing out one of the pose ideas I had for the winning pose. Still needs polish (if I even use this one). I want to have his hand closed into a fist with some sand falling out of it. There will also be a few bodies and gears on the ground. :PI will probably have his helm open as well.

pose looks badass. I like the idea of him throwing some sand with his hand.

Can’t wait to see everything together!

Worked some on the textures. I have not worked on the spec map yet so right now I have it as a flat constant around the entire model to help show the normal maps. I have not really worked on the pants or the red cloth yet. I plan on hopefully having all of the textures finished by Wed. I will fix the seams later on. I’m also including a WIP of the winning pose I’m thinking about. It still needs polish obviously. I originally had something a little more morbid (there were some hands attached to buried bodies under the ground) in addition to a small half buried gear. After talking with Heavyness I decided it was probably best to keep it more simple and so I enlarged the gear and had that be partly buried with him standing on it. Plus I imagine it makes the machines look larger/more menacing (before he defeated them all ;)). I plan on touching up the base a bit.

Except that the pose on his right arm looks a bit lame, its a super cool pose. (the hand pose is good, but some variation in how the fingers are bent would improve alot)

It might be a bit difficult to fit onto the 1000px image thought, without keeping him rather small. So I hope you make some tasty close-ups for the beauty image, so I can see how all the details work out!

Omg i really liked the armor design its really really nice!
Congratulations i really loved it!

Thanks for replying guys. As for his pose I plan on having his hand into a fist with some dirt coming out. I have not worked at all on the fingers yet. Right now the fingers on his other hand are not gripping the weapon yet either. Will post more wips sometime in the near future!

While deciding on how I wanted to handle the rest of his texture in the back of my mind I finished his pedestal. Will still need some tweaking but at least most of it is finished.

Nice work man
very good modeling and texturing only thing I found is if you are not going to open his helmet how you are going to show face detail?

else is very good keep it up

For the winning pose I will actually have his helmet open. The screenshots I have posted does have it closed right now. I’m waiting until I nail down the pose (which will be today). I will actually have his helm closed for some of the shots I place on the beauty render page.

I need to sleep now. Sooooo tired.

ok cool waiting for your final renders  cheerssssssssssssssss

#75

Worked on the face. No spec map yet. The face isn’t finished yet but getting there. Off to work now! I will most likely have my finished pictures posted tomorrow evening sometime. I will then have a little less than a day to polish and/or make changes. I will fix the seams when I’m finished with texturing.

alright we are on the final stretch of the war. I’m posting a render of the winning pose really fast. This is pretty close to being finished although if I have time after I work on the beauty render I will work on this some more. I will most likely spend 30 more minutes or so on the winning pose before I send it in (I also plan on having a border around my images so it looks nice and presentable, etc, etc. Not sure what color I will use for the background yet. I will have his helm open for the beauty render. Tired, must sleep.
