        ---------------------------LATEST UPDATE-------------------------------
alright we are on the final stretch of the war. I'm posting a render of the winning pose really fast. This is pretty close to being finished although if I have time after I work on the beauty render I will work on this some more. I will most likely spend 30 more minutes or so on the winning pose before I send it in (I also plan on having a border around my images so it looks nice and presentable, etc, etc. Not sure what color I will use for the background yet. I will have his helm open for the beauty render. Tired, must sleep.

Worked on the face. No spec map yet. The face isn’t finished yet but getting there. Off to work now! I will most likely have my finished pictures posted tomorrow evening sometime. I will then have a little less than a day to polish and/or make changes. I will fix the seams when I’m finished with texturing.

While deciding on how I wanted to handle the rest of his texture in the back of my mind I finished his pedestal. Will still need some tweaking but at least most of it is finished.

Worked some on the textures. I have not worked on the spec map yet so right now I have it as a flat constant around the entire model to help show the normal maps. I have not really worked on the pants or the red cloth yet. I plan on hopefully having all of the textures finished by Wed. I will fix the seams later on. I'm also including a WIP of the winning pose I'm thinking about. It still needs polish obviously. I originally had something a little more morbid (there were some hands attached to buried bodies under the ground) in addition to a small half buried gear. After talking with Heavyness I decided it was probably best to keep it more simple and so I enlarged the gear and had that be partly buried with him standing on it. Plus I imagine it makes the machines look larger/more menacing (before he defeated them all ;)). I plan on touching up the base a bit.

To make things more organized old images I post on this thread will be turned into links on the appropriate post.

Here we go again. Last time I finished, this time I plan on making the top 50. I have a few ideas floating around in my head. My character will most likely be:

                Name: Madrigal
                               Class: Invoker
                               Artifact Weapon: Earth/Rock

I will work on some concepts and post them sometime in the near future. Best of luck to everyone in the contest. We must CRUSH the other forums!

Last time I finished, this time I plan on making the top 50

Here, here to that brother!

This is my first war, and i hope to be in the top 50 as well man… GET IN! :buttrock:

ok, after many sketches I finally decided on what I want. I’m not adding a ton of detail into the concept so it tricks me into modeling a little more free when I get to that stage. I plan on having lots of detail for this guy. The colors I put down are not set in stone. Just something to get me thinking. I’m also going to redesign his stave so it is a little more angular and matches with the character a little more. I don’t have a name yet but I do have a good idea of what his story is (I will post it when I find a name). He is basically a Invoker and can control Earth/Rock. He has sand coming out of his eyes, nose, mouth, and parts of his armor.

FistofGod, you did a robot for 3dtotal last time right? The highpoly was ace! Great design.

I like your new dude alot, very odd design. But it would be nice to see some of the shapes put into its extremes. Clothing hanging loose in the wind, the horns on the helmet being just a bit larger and so forth. Some more of the good stuff!

i’ll keep an eye on ur thread:deal:

hakanpersson: Thank you! Yes, that was me.

Here is a update. There isn’t any detail yet but I have some VERY basic geometry thrown in so I can get an idea of how is armor will sit. I’m going to make his chest come out a little more and his forearms be a little bigger.

Alright guys. It has been awhile since I have updated but don’t worry as I’m still fighting! Last weekend was mainly spent trying to figure out where I wanted to take him as far as his armor designs go and experimenting with some things in zbrush. Here are the latest screenshots. I started adding some detail to parts of the torso and mainly the hand area. I plan on spending more time on the glove and straps down by the hand as they still need work and are not finished. I’m also going to enlarge the straps for his torso as they are kind of small at the moment. More updates coming later…

alright, here is the basic idea of his head that will be inside his helm. There are parts of flesh rotting off and the inside of his skull is filled with dirt/sand/earth (as is most of the other parts of his body). The dirt will also appear to be spreading across to other areas of his body (including armor) like a cancer. This will be more clear when I finally post the story. Still needs work obviously. Will post another wip later on today with his helm I’m working on.

here is the basic helm modeled with no details. Right now I’m mainly planning on how it opens. I like the idea of the sides opening and the top part sliding forward and then turning backward. This way the top section kind of locks everything together when the helm is closed. There will not be any holes for eyes. Will add more detail later. I also am including a body shot. I still have a ton of detail to add. After I add more detail to the armor I’m going to add the dirt/sand detail to it all. I plan on finishing up the high res model in about a week.

I think the helmet design is awesome (did I say that?) and that u are up to something cool. I really dig the details on the armor, even if they are kinda generic. Keep it up!!

#14

Thanks Albert, originally I wanted to add more complex details/designs on the armor but I was spending too much time trying to come up with something original. I was actually planning on telling a basic story with some of the details, perhaps DWI and DWII but the idea fell through. I figure once I start adding dirt built up on the armor it will look nice.

#15

Well done, especially the details in the gauntlets

tonykidd237: Thank you. I see you are going to The Art Institute of California Los Angeles? I went to the San Francisco one myself. Take care.

Alright, here are the final WIPS for today. I couldn’t finish the helm as I wasn’t feeling well and had to rest up. The sides of the helm will end up having hinges as right now they just kind of float. I will most likely end up spending a little more time on the head tomorrow to refine it more and to add some slight detail in other areas. I will then move on to some other parts of the body, and will then move onto the helm later on. I usually try and avoid adding too much detail to one area right away. In these screenshots you can kind of see the effect I’m going for with the dirt/earth kind of spreading out. I plan on having more inside of the helmet to help show that most of the inner helmet is covered and it is starting to grow on the outside from the holes on the front of the helm.

Hehe, the idea of being able to open up the helmet and seeing that ugly face is great idea. You got a pretty unique concept going on here. Really wierd shapes on the armor. I dig it!

My only crit so far is that the silhouette of the character he looks pretty “flat”, i’d imaging a little while with transpose master could improve the overall impression of your character alot.

Perhaps already answered, but what was your workflow when creating those symbols and stuff on the armor? Was it built in zbrush?
I did similiar stuff with retopology, and projected them over with zproject brush. But yours are so precise and a part of the frame. Please share:scream:

#19

Thanks! I may alter the proportions slightly but we will see. I usually change things when working on the high poly for a better look if my original concept is not full of detail. I also think that if I pose him right he can look pretty cool as is. When creating the silhouette my main concern was the helm actually and I kind of like the idea of it being the main feature standing out.

I created the details on the armor by using a combination of selection masks, deformations, and just doing it by hand for some of the details. The downside to doing it this way is that your mesh has to be very, very dense when sculpting in the details.

Hello everyone,

I worked on the arms along with a few other areas. I plan on adding more detail and wrinkles to the arms right after posting this. I decided to remove the forearm armor as I don’t want to have too much armor on him. I also decided not to have the cloth on his arms hang off of him as much so his arms look thinner, and longer.
