DWIII - 2D - PondaNagura - Prism

so i wont get any sketches up tonite, but i’m working on a Humanoid, symbiotic caster character who uses a mix of lens technology, imbued with magic runes, and aided by this Prismatic artifact.

the idea is that the artifact Prism, has magicaly replaced his heart. He can pull out this Prism-plug to add to his weapon’s power, but ten runs the risk of exposing his soul to attacks. Alternatively he keeps it in the slot mounted in his armor, which is made from old bitz of cars/motorcycles, plastic bumpers, reflectors (things that used produce light but no longer can without electricty). By doing this he has more physical strength and makes all the coll little light artifacts glow…still working on the effect for these (maybe they blind or disorient attackers)

this is why he he has all sorts of mirrors and lenses, to reflect sunlight, firlight, anything that glows and direct it towards himself. he not the upfront melee attacker like warlords, rather the guy hustling around in battles setting up his equipment to draw in more power to feul his Light attacks.

i thought maybe he should be visually imapred or hampered in some way, like blind or nearsight, hence why he’s become this expert in Lightcraft.

hopefully i'll get some of my sketches up tomorrow.

talked with RedGlass abit…tweaked the projector to more of a pike, rather than a gun.
also to assist in gathering more light to feul the Prism he has this collection of mirrors’lenses to bounce ambient light into the Prism.

tell me what you guys think?

Hey man, I think the light spear needs to be longer, it makes good contrast with the short/squatness of the character but it can be pushed further. Make it really pike like (like double his height).

I also think you’re drawing too small right now. I know he’s short but there are alot of things he needs to function, like hooks and bags for all of his deployable stuff, currently it’s hard to see where he puts it all (maybe a salvaged H-frame hiking bag?). His non-weapony parts just need more substance right now. What kind of boots does he wear? What’s his breastplate made out of? I look at his design and I want to know more and more, but I’m not getting it.

I love the complicated arrays of light, I think he is very unique in your interpretation of ‘light’ powers, it being real light and not some divine power. Either way keep it up and keep having fun!

wow, my drawing skills have slipped since last year. i took a step back, yelled at myself, and drew up the resulting images. i’m gonna go back and compress the older sketches into a smaller thumbs, i didn’t realize how unecessarily large those images were.

here are some more refined ideas:
profiles, and stance shots. plus some more detailed ideas for armor, which is recobbled from old bitz of bikes and other techno-archana, with reflective/glass items…reflectors, tirnsignals, sideview mirrors, etc. all of which aid this guy in directing light to feul/strengthen his attacks. plus i think it fits with a “madmax” kind of post-apoctalyptic world.

it’s difficult to try and keep the steam-punk out of these…and will take some time to add more magic!
