DWIII - 2D - fadingray - Electromancer

f i n a l:

name: Azreeh
   race: Undead dwarf
   class: Invoker
   element: Lightning
artifact weapon: pair of runic gauntlets

  story:

Ancient dwarven Archengineer, Jozog was returned to
life by ambicious adept of necromancy - Azreeh. Azreeh
moved his own soul into dwarfs body, took control over
it and possesed remains of the dwarfs precious
  knowledge.
It was needed in order to make and properly use an
  artifact weapon.
The weapon that will help to fight the way through
tunnels that recently appeard on planets surface.
Tunnels burrowed by metal beasts was leading to
the same wormholes as 1000 years ago, which this time
  appeared deep below the ground.
The task was to travel by the wormhole to the metal
beast's world and get the secret of their technology.

  artifact weapon:

The artifact itself was a pair of gauntlets filled
  with static energy.
Normal Invoker would be able to cast lightnings and
turn his enemies to dust by touch. But Azreeh wasn't by
all means normal Invoker, and with the ancient
knowledge, he soon learned how to use runic gauntlets
to control most aspects of electromagnetism.

  tunnel fight example:

Using both hands Azreeh magnetize metal creatures,
binding their limbs to bodies, making them unable to
move as long as he concentrate. He could even bind a
whole group of creatures and weld their bodies together
  with single lightning strike.
Finally, that ball of metal bodies is melted into lake
of glowing fluid from a safe distance in a matter of
several seconds, by huge and noisy electric arc.
To pass over this hot lake Arzeeh straighten his
hands facing them to the ground, gathers
energy in the gauntlets and creates gravity
well to fly over it ( simple levitation ).

   sketch:

Here's the initial sketch of Azreeh in Jozog's body.
On the left there was my first conception with rod and
gauntlet, but as i read that dual artifacts have to be
the same i made a second version.
You can see a container on dwarfs back - this is some
necromantic device feeding dwarf with lifeforce,
so he doesn't feel hunger as a usual undead
   would.
Electromancer's uniform will be made of various non-metalic
materials, maybe some ancient high tech pieces (i dont
   know yet), some ceramic(?),rubber,leather,
wires hanging here and there ( stabilizing energy,
powering the lifesource container), isolated boots and
   lots of glowing runes.

Just to be clear - there is no
  electronic/digital/advanced technology in this design,
just an partial ancient knowlegde adapted to new magical ways
  of creating and controling power.

I’ve removed the helmet and made bit more dramatic pose ( 3h of painting )

ill give you more details about how his arifact exactly works in next update

#3

and here is electromancers way of dealing with metal creatures

  1. slowing down/holding/deflecting any metal body (creature, weapon, projectile)
  2. directing electromagnetic field to creatures origin to force its limbs to stick to the body, immobilazing it.
  3. still holding creature under EM field, electromancer use short lightning strike to weld binded
body parts, making it unable to move for some time.
  4. with electric arc of devastating power creature is melted within few seconds.
Each of those powers requires certain gesture, some need use of both gauntlets
    as drawn below.

#4

Haha I love your sketches so far … man :D, great sketches on how his power works. Cheers

#5

I really like the idea, and the attack-steps sketches are very cool. Can’t wait to see him colored! And the wild crazy hair is definately better than the helmet in my opinion.

#6

Thx mates and glad you like it
Those standing hair are to give him looks of a mad scientist from early scifi movies.
I want him to remind a mix of evil Einstein and runepriest for Warhammer.

#7

I kinda like your idea, more original than most I’ve seen for dominance wars.

#8

Impressive sketches!

#9

Love the attack sketches. Dwarves rock.

#10

FreakyDude, Alex Novo, eMysfit: thank you.

Iv finally found some time to create & post anything.
So heres speedy head concept and an overall design drawing ( this one is in progress , im workin’ on details and trying to give him more fantasy look )

#11

Iv made preview versions of the final images
just to see how this will work together,
and what I have to work on.
The details of character’s costume are still in development.

#12

Looks like you’re making some pretty good progress. I still love the drawings of him melting the machine creature thingy. Winning pose looks like it’s got some good perspective to it. Wish you much luck in your final submissions.

#13

Hi
Thanks alot for comment and kind words.
I wish you good luck also.
About that metal “creature” - i just found out that in fact they should be mechanical
(seems that i haven’t read the story too carefully :stuck_out_tongue: ). So ill have to make some minor changes to make it look more robotic.

And here’s current progress in modeling sheet:

#14

Very nice stuff! Your paint style is really great! I’m especially looking forward to seeing the finished color shot.

As for the modeling sheet, overall looking really good. The one part that feels awkward is the front view, where his left foot is not quite attached correctly and is sideways. It works fine in that pose for the action shot, but when you get to the orthagonals, you have the side view for showing the side of the foot. As it’s the front view, I would recommend showing that foot from the front.

Also, just gotta say I really love the underlighting on his face! Nice work, and good luck with the rest!

It’s funny, it’s cool, and really nice to see his action. And I like dwarves. He reminds me of Einstein, and his white hair fits his power. Nice man, wanna see more.

Great job so far! inspiring stuff man, congratulations:thumbsup:

#17

walrus: im glad you like it
About bent leg in front view - it is to show the inner side of the boot which is (slightly) different than outer. Ill see if i can do as you suggest, and maybe ill put inner side view of boot somewhere under arm side view ( but there isnt too much room for that  )
kenzoabeki: thanks, mad scientists were my inspiration
BloodTaster: thank you

#18

man your face close up painting is great! he looks a bit ghostly in I think because of the expression and colors you have choosen, But I like that, its refreshing to see a dwarfish charcter done with a bit of a twist.

cool gauntlets also !

#19

Sorry for lack of updates - i was really busy with my 3d entry and some other jobs.
Its not finished as i want it to be ( was hoping on second deadline extention :stuck_out_tongue: )

hyperSasquatch: Happy that someone likes my speedpaint heads. I love to speedpaint (or im too lazy to make finished works  ) He looks ghostly because he is dead actually, and driven by a necromancer inside his brain.

Anyways here are the finals:
I wonder who will guess what this illustration is about

thanks everyone for feedback
