Drawing turnarounds

#1

hi there guys.,

I’m trying to learn how to do a turn around for betty boop. I have never done a turn around before. is there any perticular technique that makes it easier to do this or is it purely imagination.

Are there any online tutorials about turn arounds?

Please help…

thanks in advance

If by turnaround I take it you mean that you want to develop the character from all sides? so you would have a front-view, side-view, back-view, etc?

If this is the case there are some reference photographs you could use to work up your own turnaround design on http://www.characterdesigns.com.

Have a look at this one:

This one consists of 8 frames. 1-front; 2-halfprofileR; 3-profileR; 4-halfbackprofileR; 5-back; 6,7,8 are just mirrored versions of 4,3,2. This was done just for fun as a test in gimp. Analyze the .gif file or I can send you the .xcf file so you can have a look at the process. If you really never have been doing cartoon animation I´d strongly recommend to get some books like "Preston Blair - Cartoon Animation" or "The Animator´s Survival Kit". There you get, at least, the theory and techniques used in 2d animation.

Man. I sat back for 5 minutes and drank a Corona while watching that spinning head.

I feel changed…
