Double display with a laptop

#1

I have a 17" 1920x1080 laptop but i have to do some tutorials while at home that a second display would be very helpful, my question is what size/resolution should i get this display.

Respect the 17" 1080 of my laptop or go bigger? Whatever else i should consider?

Assuming the videocard supports it, and you don’t want to spend a fortune, personally I’d go with a 1080p (so windows, mouse and menus are consistent when moving across screens), and 23-24", as that tends to have a very readable pitch and is a common and affordable size.

A proper monitor, keyboard and mouse to have in front of you are a must if you work off a laptop, IMO. Working directly on the laptop as a main input device and screen is brutal for practically your entire upper body from your arse to your brain.

Running dual 2560*1440 monitors on my nvidia GT 650M equipped MacBook Pro ATM.

It uses up a good deal of the 1GB GPU RAM, but its fine for modelling. A GPU sculpting app like Mudbox/Sculptris/Blender might require me to dial the resolution of one of the screens down, or turn it off.

I can sculpt 9 million GL triangles in Modo with no more issues than usual (which is to say, modo is not the most brilliant sculpting app at the best of times).

Thanks everyone.
I am in a 765 so i think it has power. I must say that i don’t find my laptop work tiring, i have a seating position a bit reclined so i have no back issues.
