Does Mudbox 2010 Support bigger then 4096 textures ?

#1

Hey guys,

Just wondering if Mudbox 2010 supports texture layers bigger then 4096 layers ?

#2

When you make a new layer you have to pick one of the default sizes but when you’ve made that layer you can just right click on it and import layer as an image file at a different size.

I pretty new to Mudbox and still learning so there may be a better way of doing this?

Well you may be able to import texture size bigger then 4096 but you can only export the size at 4096, so there is no point in importing anything bigger then 4096.

In the paint layers right click on your previously imported higher rez layer select export selected and it exports it at whatever resolution you imported it at. ( in my Mudbox 2010 demo anyway)

#5

awesome cheers for that

#6

in the main menu go to: Windows > preferences > Render > Max texture size

#7

How about extracting displacement maps over 4096 x 4096 ??

I need to use something more like the double rez of that to keep all the fine sculpted details

the only way is to use uv tiles…
move your uvs outside the 0-1 uv space and bake 25 4k maps if you wish…
mud will create for each uv tile a texture… you can bake or paint it…

the uv tile method will also help to render your giant textures…
not all rigs are able to handle 8k maps… most of the time 4 4k maps are easier to load into your ram…
and if you need only a small part of the texture in some shoots you allways have to load the whole 8k maps…
