Does MODO hook into the LW hub?

#1

Im wondering if my workflow will be the same…using the hub to transfer a model to layout or do I save and then load after each modification of an object?

Cheers for any info…RZ

ALSO - one more vote for the urgently required demo version…dont be scared lux!

Save and Load. Modo doesn’t support the LW HUB - it’s theoretcially possible for them to support it in the future, but I doubt they will.

the hub is evil…

You know, there’s quite a few users out there who hate the Hub, but I’ve honestly never had a problem with it in the least since it came out (except for 1 issue of it mangling a file during an early beta of LW6).

Cheers all

shame no auto porting objects to layout. Thats a real workflow slowdown for me…

Its like back to the days of the AMIGA…saving and loading and saving again…oh and then loading one more time…hmmm

Perhaps but you are not taking into account some very substantial time savings inside Modo that are a considerable savings in time over some of the slower clunkier aspects of LW.

Sub Divisions are far faster and less of a hassle. In LW you can go to general Options, set patch division level, try it out, decide you don’t like 2, go back and change it to 3 or 4, go back into modeler and try again, decide you don’t like that go back to general options and cahnge it again.

In Modo I can keep hitting the “D” key until I get what I want. Trust me, it’s much faster.

Bevel tools are far more interactive in Modo than Lightwave, I no longer have to try, undo, try again, undo until I get what I want. Modo gives me real time beveling which I can control as much or as little as I want.

Andd those are only a couple of minor examples. There are a whole lot more.

The workflow time savings ALONE are worth far more than the relatively minor inconvenience of having to save a model then load it in whatever program you wish to use to animate.

True true MadMax; Modo is pretty incredible, especially when you consider that it’s a 1.0 release.

As far as the Save/Load thing, it’s really not that big of a deal. In fact, I’ve been working with Modo, Modeler & Layout open; utilizing the Save & Revert Object functions of both packages to achieve a pretty nice workflow. Model the object in Modo, Load it up in Modeler to add Skelegons and then “Hub” it over to Layout. If I’m not happy with a deformation around a specific area, I just switch back into Modo (with the original file still open), click Revert Object and it Loads the object again but with the changes made in modeler applied, then I tweak the object, save it and then switch back to Modeler and hit “revert object to last saved” BAAAM the changes are applied to the object in Modeler and they reciprocate down into Layout through the Hub. It’s quite effective and works similar to having Modo work with LW’s Hub. The Save/Revert method isn’t foolproof, but when it does work properly it’s very efficient.

The above may not make much sense as I’m operating on a NyQuil buzz.

In the future there will likely be no need.
