Does "Edge Slide" Not Work in 2.5?

#1

Does “Edge Slide” not work in 2.5. I select my vertice and then press the “Edge Slide” button but nothing happens. I followed a tutorial and all they said to do was click the vertice then press the “Edge Slide” button or (CTRL + E) and then slide the mouse, but the vertice just stays put. I’ve got it to work once but it’s so unpredictable.

I must be doing something wrong.

To my knowledge, Edge Slide does not work on individual vertices … not in 2.5 or previous versions. Would be nice if it did (it may even already be planned?). A work-around is to place the 3D cursor at a target vertex, and Scale the vertex to be ‘slid’ toward the cursor.

oh, thanks Eric. Coming from Cinema 4D, I just assumed it was the same and you could slide vertices too! I agree, being able to slide vertices would be really helpful.

BTW, just loving Blender. I find I can model much faster in it than Cinema 4D. Go figure! :buttrock:

I find it more useful to switch the move manipulator handles to Normal, then Shift-drag the Z axis. This lets you move the vertex along the X/Y plane lying tangent to its normal. If the Z axis is facing inside the model, select all and hit Control+N.

The other thing that works better in 2.5 is to snap verts to edges using the snapping tools. Not as easy when you’re trying to move a vert down one of its own edges, but I often make new verts, slide them down edges, and the rebuild. It’s pretty quick.

Haha, here is a 3rd method to get it done…

Set the pivot point to “active element”. Then Select the vert you want to move first, and then the vert you want to move it towards second. Then Scale and it will pull the first selected vert towards the 2nd.

I never thought of that … saves a step or two from my suggested method. Thanks!
